During the settling period, it's crucial that you avoid putting excess pressure on your dermal fillers. With that in mind, you have to get used to sleeping on your back for the first 48 hours after your cheek filler appointment.
Sleep on Your Back or Side: To minimize pressure on the treated areas, it is best to sleep on your back or side for the first 24 to 48 hours. This positioning helps ensure that the filler settles evenly and integrates smoothly with the surrounding tissues.
The best results of dermal fillers are seen typically 1 to 2 weeks post treatment with some of the swelling and bruising dissipating by then. It could take up to 4 weeks for everything to completely settle down, at which point you will notice the results you're expecting.
Avoid sleeping on your stomach for 1 week. This minimises pressure on your nose to prevent filler migration.
AFTER BUTTOCKS/HIP DIP FILLER
Avoid sitting or lying on your back for at least 24 hours after the procedure. This will help to prevent the filler from shifting or becoming uneven. Avoid strenuous physical activity or exercise for at least 24 to 48 hours after the procedure.
Stay upright for three to four hours after your dermal filler treatment. Moreover, avoid touching or applying pressure to the treated part. Doing so will keep the filler from spreading to other body parts. Thus, ensuring that the newly-injected filler stays in the treated area.
The general timeline for transitioning to side sleeping varies among individuals, but most patients can start considering this change about four to six weeks post-surgery. It is crucial to follow your surgeon's advice, as they will assess your specific healing process and provide personalized recommendations.
This is specially important if you have had a cannula used for the filler injection. After 24 hours the skin is sealed again naturally at the puncture sites and you can go back to washing your face normally. We are all aware that fillers are hyaluronic acid gels.
You should wait at least 24 to 48 hours before exercising again. When you do any intense activity post-injectable, there's a risk of prolonged bruising and swelling at the injection site. The cheek filler may also migrate to other areas so just take it easy for several days to let the injectable settle in its position.
“Pillow face” occurs when too much filler is injected into areas like the cheeks, nasolabial folds (the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth), lips, and under-eye area. This repeated overfilling can result in a bloated, round appearance that looks far from natural.
Optimal Results: The Peak Appearance
The peak appearance of filler results is typically observed about 4 to 6 weeks after the initial treatment.
Fillers remain moldable for 1-2 weeks, and pressure can deform your filler. The most common culprits? The face cradle on massage tables, tight ski goggles and swim goggles. Normal activities like washing your face or putting on make-up do not have enough force to mold your filler.
Depending on your issue, filler migration can be noticed immediately, especially if it's due to overfilling (more on that below). But you can also see it at any time—even months later—as your filler breaks down or the muscles in your face move it around if it's improperly injected.
After your facial filler procedure, you'll likely have very minor swelling and possible pain at injection sites. Over the next few days, as these subside, you'll use gentle cleansers and moisturizers, and copious amounts of sunscreens.
The ideal sleep position: On your back
For optimal spine alignment, place one pillow underneath your head or neck and another underneath your knees. If you're pregnant, however, you should avoid this position because it decreases blood circulation to the heart and baby.
For the first night after your filler treatment, it's best to sleep on your back with your head elevated. After this period, you can start to return to your normal sleeping position, but continue to be mindful of not putting too much pressure on your face, especially if any swelling or tenderness persists.
Something else you should avoid for at least 24 hours after you get dermal fillers is strenuous exercise or physical activity. These activities increase your blood pressure, exacerbating bruising and swelling around the injection sites.
The full recovery time from dermal filler treatment varies patient to patient. Generally, recovery lasts one to two days. Most patients are available to return to their normal activities immediately after treatment.
On the day of your filler treatment, an ice pack or bag of frozen peas can be applied to the swollen area for a maximum of 10 minutes per hour for the rest of the day to diminish swelling. Swelling can last 3-4 days. It is also normal to experience some tenderness. You may take Tylenol for this.
Although extremely rare, dermal fillers are able to migrate within the skin if consistent and adequate pressure is applied to them. For this reason, we advise patients not to get a facial, massage (on the treated skin), or dermaplaning for the first two weeks following their filler injections.
Tightening of the abdominal skin and muscles often leads to this discomfort, affecting spinal alignment. The tightening of abdominal muscles changes your posture, placing extra strain on the back. Wearing tight compression garments and the tendency to hunch forward during healing may worsen this pain.
