We want your tan to be 20/10 and unfortunately if moisturiser is applied it can leave blotches, marks and strip the tan in certain spots on the skin. Once you've washed off the colour guide and waited at least 8 hours, you can apply your favourite moisturiser to your entire body.
16. DON'T moisturise after the initial rinse off of fake tan residue. This is a biggie. The product is still developing. Adding moisturiser at this point will dilute the tan's development. 17. DO moisturise like a boss every time after that to look after your tan investment.
I'm Clean. What Should I Do Now? Once out of the shower, gently pat your body dry with a soft towel. Avoid rubbing, which will essentially exfoliate away your tan and lead to a patchy, uneven finish.
You should not use any soap or lotion for the first 12 hours after you have washed the tan off with just water. After the 12 hours is up and you are ready to take your second shower, you are clear to use body soap and then moisturize afterwards with a tan safe moisturizer.
Tanning Tip: 1 Hour Express will continue to develop on the skin for 6-8 hours, even after the color guide has been washed off.
Once you've rinsed and waited a minimum of 8 hours, you can shower as normal. For best results and a longer lasting tan however, we do recommend opting for a wash that is super moisturizing and nourishing for your skin rather than a soap. We also recommend patting yourself dry rather than rubbing.
To help your tan develop, you'll want to avoid all moisture for at least 4-5 hours after you get a spray tan. This includes showering, workouts, hot yoga, lotions, liquid foundation, etc. Staying dry will help the spray tan solution adhere to your skin.

It is the DHA (a chemical found in fake tan) that is responsible for adding pigment to the skin, and it stays on the skin even after washing. Therefore, depending on the product and the strength of the DHA in it, your tan could continue to develop for up to 24 hours.
You want something that is very loose, not tight to your body—dark, loose clothing. And since you're wearing a long sleeve shirt, pants and flip-flops you want to crank that A C., you mustn't sweat after your spray tan.
After tanning, you will produce a little bit of sweat, but that's it. There is no reason to shower right away because water does not affect the tan. This is another myth that has been around for ages. The truth is, showering right after getting a tan will not cause staining of your skin.
AFTER THE TAN
Shower lightly in cold – lukewarm water for 45 seconds ONLY after your desired development time. Use plain water, don't use shower gels, scrubs, shampoos or loofah during the first 24 hours after your treatment. Pat your skin dry. Do not rub or scrub your skin.
It is important not to wear tight clothing after applying fake tan as this can cause your tan to rub off or cause marks. This can make self-tanning in the morning more difficult as you must wear dark, loose clothing to avoid any transfer and you can't use deodorant or perfume.

Standard tans
Must be rinsed after 8-12 hours – Use lukewarm water then pat dry with a towel (do not rub). You will start to see your colour develop but please do not moisturise for another 12 hours after the initial rinse Any product applied during this time may affect the result.
Avoid OILS on the skin!
Oil can break down the colour of self-tanner by loosening the dead skin cells that have been dyed brown by fake tan. When these dead skin cells start to crack and flake off, it can result in a patchy or uneven tan, often referred to as a "tiger bread" tan.
LOTIONS Avoid any oils or lotions that use mineral oil (petroleum), baby oil, coconut oil, and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (which is found in most body washes). I have found the best lotions to use are Aveeno, Cetaphil, Hempz, and CeraVe. Lotions with perfumes contain high alcohol levels and tend to dry out the skin.
Generally accepted advice about the use of moisturizers is to apply it twice daily––every morning and every night. It's the most commonly accepted practice because it ensures that the moisture content of your skin remains constant throughout the entire 24 hour period.
