Use a mild moisturizer such as aloe vera gel or vitamin A&E ointment daily—once in the morning and once at night—and apply it with gentle upward strokes until it's fully absorbed into your skin. Avoid applying products containing alcohol, fragrances, or dyes as these can damage your delicate post-microblading skin.
With its anti-inflammatory properties, a thin application of this natural remedy can provide relief from irritation. Simply dab some aloe vera gel on your eyebrows using a fresh washcloth or your clean hands for instant comfort.
Do not let any water, lotion, soap, or makeup touch your eyebrow area during the first 7 days after your procedure. Please wash your face carefully around the eyebrow without getting water on the treated area. During the shower, keep your face away from the shower head or take a bath.
I recommend a thin layer of A&D ointment or aquaphor!
BROW REWIND is an easy-to-use, at-home solution designed to gently reduce the appearance of unwanted pigment from microblading and cosmetic eyebrow tattoos. Formulated with skin-friendly ingredients, it also helps soften the look of scar tissue, promote skin health, and support natural eyebrow hair growth.
We recommend applying unrefined, cold-pressed, organic castor oil from a glass jar or BPA-free plastic container directly to the brows before sleeping. It is highly recommended that clients test castor oil on an area of skin away from their eyes and face before using it on their eyelashes.
Sweat. For the same reason that water should be avoided during the healing/scabbing process after microblading, sweat should also be avoided. Sweat comes from the inside of the skin and can push the pigment out and cause the microblading strokes not to retain.
Do not use Vaseline as a moisturiser—only as a water barrier. If your eyebrows do get wet, gently pat them dry with a clean tissue. Keep your hair away from your eyebrows to avoid introducing bacteria.
Factors That Affect Microblading Longevity
Oily skin causes faster fading. Proper care extends the life of the pigment. Higher quality pigments last longer. UV rays accelerate fading.
Around days eight or nine of the healing process, your brows may take on a spooky appearance, appearing faded, gray, or even patchy. This is known as the microblading ghosting phase. The fading is a regular and temporary part of the healing process. Your bold, beautiful brows will make their triumphant return.
No exfoliating or harsh cleansers on your brows for 4 weeks. Apply a thin layer of grapeseed or coconut oil to your brows ONLY AS NEEDED, do not make a daily regimen. Only use a small amount, over saturating the brows can blur your strokes and effect your results.
In addition, aloe vera helps strengthen the brow hairs and thus prevents them from falling out. But that's not all: this super ingredient also reduces oily skin and opens up the hair follicles, which also contributes to increased growth.
Apply a rice grain amount of aftercare ointment with a cotton swab and spread it across the treated area. Be sure not to over-apply, as this will suffocate your skin and delay the healing process. The ointment should be barely noticeable on the skin. Never put the ointment on while your eyebrows are wet or damp.
There is no doubt that Aquaphor is the most common ointment used to treat dry and itchy skin. Even tattoo artists would agree.
Aquaphor Healing Ointment
Alternatively, you can use a different healing ointment like Aquaphor. It's important to make sure there are no added antibiotics or harsh ingredients that can break down pigment in your brows.
Retin A, retinol, topical vitamin C, AHA'S, BHA'S, salicylic acids, chemical peels and any overly ascetic or alkaline skin care product will rapidly fade out permanent cosmetics. Products containing these ingredients should be avoided for at least 30 days after any application of cosmetic tattoo.
Botched eyebrow microblading can result in uneven shapes, unnatural colors, or overly thick brows. A professional consultation is the first step to assessing and fixing bad eyebrow microblading. Corrections can include reshaping, color adjustment, or a touch-up to improve brow appearance.
Let's review the commonly recommended options for healing the skin after getting a tattoo or your eyebrows microbladed. Vaseline/petroleum may fade the ink but it will not cause an allergic reaction and is cheap so for many this is an ok trade off.
Face washes, serums, sprays, exfoliants, moisturizers, etc. SHOULD NOT BE APPLIED UNTIL 14 DAYS AFTER MICROBLADING. Products that are exfoliating or have exfoliating acids or promote cell turnover will cause your microblading to fade.
I always end with a final pigment mask, leaving pigment on for 10-15 minutes and until completely dry. If you like to mask it is important you use a microblading pigment line that does not dry out too fast! Once a pigment dries out on the brow it will no longer absorb into the stroke channels.
