Hello - Swelling post dermal filler injection does occur and usually peaks at 24-48 hours. This may affect your smile. The good news is swelling typically is fully resolved by one week and your smile should be back to normal.
That said, these injectable treatments take some time to integrate into your tissues, and it's normal for your dermal filler to take up to two weeks to fully settle into your face.
Avoid alcohol, caffeine, Niacin supplement, high-sodium foods, high sugar foods, refined carbohydrates, spicy foods, and cigarettes 24-48 hours before and after your treatment. (All of these factors may increase risk of bruising and swelling).
Drink plenty of water. HA based fillers such as Juvederm work by using the water naturally stored in our tissues, by drinking plenty of water after having a dermal filler treatment it helps the filler hold its chaos and last for longer.
If you must wash your face on the day of the procedure, stick to a source of water that you consider safe. This is specially important if you have had a cannula used for the filler injection. After 24 hours the skin is sealed again naturally at the puncture sites and you can go back to washing your face normally.
Avoid facials, waxing, chemical peels, skin needling, microdermabrasion, IPL or laser treatments for 2 weeks after treatment. Please discuss your future treatment plans with any of our consultants if you are uncertain. Do not massage the treatment area unless instructed to do so.
Avoid alcohol, caffeine, hot drinks and spicy food for 24 hours, as these may exacerbate bruising and swelling.
Do not touch or rub injected site for 2-4 hours following treatment. Avoid exercise and sweating for the remainder of the day and no lying down or leaning forward for 2-4 hours after treatment. There can be a slight chance of bruising at the treated site, this is temporary.
It's also worth avoiding hot beverages and excessive alcohol after your treatment. As dermal fillers contain an anaesthetic, your lips may still be slightly numb after the procedure and drinking anything too hot may scald your lips without you realising it.
Apply Ice – While it's not recommended that patients put much pressure on their injection sites, gently applying ice to the treated areas can help reduce swelling. Avoid Exercising – An increased heart rate will cause your injection sites to swell; therefore, Dr.

When injected, the filler can feel firm or harden. This can be alarming for patients since most want their fillers to feel soft. Cheek fillers are one that can be somewhat firm, but not hard.
Make sure to sleep on your back with your head elevated using 2 pillows for 3 nights-this will ensure that the newly injected filler stays in place. Another option would be to use a wrap around neck pillow to stabilize your head.
Avoid Alcohol and Caffeine
You should not drink alcohol within the first 24 hours after treatment. It's also important to avoid too much caffeine both before and after your scheduled appointment. This is to ensure you get the best possible results.
Along with alcohol you should avoid drinking excessive caffeine before or after your procedure, in order not to dehydrate and increase your heart rate. By increasing your heart rate and blood flow, the Botox can destroy itself more quickly before the skin tightening effects have time to take place.
Limit Caffeine and Avoid Alcohol
Doing so will ensure that you get the best results. Both caffeine and alcohol can dilate the blood vessels beneath the skin, which is counterintuitive to your results.
These include redness, bruising and tenderness at the injection sites. Discomfort or tenderness lasts only a few days and can generally be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen. Hypersensitivity and numbness are also common for the first few days after treatment.
The Results Improve Over Time
Because these injections stimulate your body's production of collagen and elastin, the final results of treatment won't be seen for several weeks. Even as the hyaluronic acid is processed by your body, healthy collagen and elastin grow at a more significant rate.
