So you're wrong if you expect to only color with another color and to change your color of hair. The new color won't lift the already existing color or lighten it. Your new color is placed on the older shade and only darker is your hair color.
Generally speaking, hair dye won't lighten previously-colored hair.
2 Buy two boxes of hair dye. You don't want to run out of dye halfway through the process. If your hair is shoulder length or longer, you may need two boxes to cover your whole head, depending on hair thickness. If you end up with a leftover box, you can always save it for next time or return it.
Dyeing your hair again the same day can cause significant damage to your hair and also your scalp. Typically, you should wait 6-8 weeks to dye your hair again after the first time. Hair dye has a lot of harsh chemicals in them that are applied to your hair and scalp.
Hair dyes pretty much work in the same way. You cannot just easily color over a previous color without having problems occur. However, it's much easier to color from a lighter color to a darker one. Say if you have light brown hair and you want to go to a dark brown.
Generally speaking though, it's best to wait 4-6 weeks before having another color treatment – in most cases, this is enough anyway and reduces the risk of hair damage. There are some exceptions, but in general, it's better to err on the side of caution and wait for this long.
Applying the dye to hair that you've already colored can cause the color to darken and your hair to become brittle from over treatment. Start applying the product on your scalp and work your way until you reach the end of the new growth. Leave the ends of your hair untreated.
How long should you wait before re-coloring your hair? It's generally suggested to wait at least four weeks between coloring hair. That's the minimum interval if you care about your hair but it would actually be better to wait somewhere around six or seven weeks if you're really scared of doing any damage.
You must wait at least four days to try and re-color it with permanent hair color. Before actually re-coloring your hair you can try using a color shampoo or color mouse. Or, you can try a temporary repair with half-permanent hair color. You can stain your hair again within a day with semi-permanent color.
Mixing Hair Colours gives you the ability to:
Create a custom Hair Colour that fits your taste. Achieve that in-between Hair Colour. For example: The Colour between 3 Dark Brown and 5 Light Brown. Add a little oomph of Warmth or vibrancy to your Hair Colour.
Generally, it's safe to re-dye every 6 to 8 weeks. Permanent hair dye lightens the hair and deposits color.
But if you do still want to try dye it again, go for it. It's not recommended to dye it that often in such a short space of time, but it won't do any real harm. Just make sure you do condition it properly etc, just to be on the safe side.
In order to apply a lighter dye, you would need to first remove the current dye by using a color remover kit, or by doing a bleach bath on the hair. Once you've removed the darker dye, you can apply a lighter dye.
Our salon has many clients who ask our hairdressers, “Can I dye it again after I have opened it?” The conclusion is, yes, it is possible to use it again if it hasn't been mixed with peroxide.
Hair dye damage: light colour versus dark colour. It's true that dying your hair dark has a different effect on hair than if you were to dye it a lighter colour or bleach it. When you dye your hair darker, you're lifting up the cuticle and adding colour molecules to it.
Permanent dye contains strong chemicals, so you can easily land in trouble for forgetting to rinse in time. When the dye remains on hair for long, the dye absorbs moisture in the hair follicles, leaving your hair dry. Excessive hair dryness can make the hair break, especially if the strands are thin.
If you want to mix 2 different colors of hair dye, try to use colors that are within the same 2 to 3 shades. When combining with the developer, use the exact same amount of each dye and adjust the amount of developer to keep it within the correct ratio.
Hair color shades can be mixed but ONLY if they are the same type (permanent, demi-permanent, semi-permanent) AND the same brand.
Always Use a 20 Volume Developer
Grey hair tends to be resistant and typically takes longer to grab hold of the hair. Since there is no pigment, there is no need to lift.
The bleaching process has completely stripped your hair of all pigment. When you dye your hair, the dye needs pigment molecules to bond to. You may need to use a filler such as brassy orange or yellow tones to put those color molecules back into your hair.
By using coffee in your hair, you are also saving yourself from all the chemicals in regular dye. It will leave it looking beautiful and healthier. Coffee will darken your hair.
It's definitely doable, and gentler than dyeing it. But there are a few things to keep in mind, otherwise you might end up with a green or orange hue – and that's probably not what you want. Generally speaking, the darker you want to tint your blond hair, the more delicately you need to tread.
Does bleached hair fade? Bleached hair doesn't fade back to your natural hair colour in the same way that other dyes will. However, it can become darker or duller over time if the toner washes out, leading to yellow pigments becoming visible again.
