First-time patients are often concerned that getting injections in their cheeks, forehead, or other areas will hurt. Dermal filler treatment is actually pretty painless. Fillers contain an anesthetic in their formulas that begin to desensitize nerve-endings immediately upon the first injection.
Fortunately, dermal fillers work very quickly, and you won't have to wait twelve months to see the full benefits of your injections. That said, these injectable treatments take some time to integrate into your tissues, and it's normal for your dermal filler to take up to two weeks to fully settle into your face.
You will most likely experience a small amount of redness and swelling immediately after the treatment, but this usually subsides anytime between a couple of hours and a couple of days. There may be some bruising, especially if you have had a lip enhancement, but this tends fade after a few days.
Your initial appearance after treatment with any dermal filler may include: An "overfilled" appearance to treated areas. Swelling or bruising ranging from mild to severe. Temporary numbness or redness.
Swelling subsides, typically, within a few days. It's most apparent 24 to 72 hours after treatment before starting to subside gradually. Very occasionally, swelling can last from several days to four weeks.
The filler can take several weeks to soften and settle into your skin. This means that patients won't see the ultimate results of their treatment immediately. Although individual results will vary, many people achieve the full effect within two weeks after receiving their injections.
Avoid itching, or picking around the injection site. Avoid applying intense heat to the treated area, that includes hot tubs, saunas, sunbathing or tanning. Don't drink alcohol the day of treatment, and try to avoid it for 2 days after. Avoid exercising for 2 days or until swelling subsides.
General Care After Fillers:
Bruising and Swelling – gently ice for the first 24 hours. 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off – five times a day. Extra icing can definitely help. Headache Pain or Pain at Injection Site – Tylenol or Motrin usually is all that is required.
The best way to prepare for Dermal Fillers is to make sure you are keeping your body healthy. You should keep your skin, especially the areas in which the procedure will be working on, in good condition. This can be done by moisturising and keeping it clean so that pores are not damaged when the treatment occurs.
Whether you're choosing injectables to soften fine lines and wrinkles, plump up lost facial volume, or tighten up sagging skin, you can expect to see results almost immediately. * While everyone is different and individual results vary, most patients see their results within 24 to 48 hours after their injections.
Even as the hyaluronic acid is processed by your body, healthy collagen and elastin grow at a more significant rate. This means you will see initial improvement nearly immediately. They will improve over six to eight weeks.
Dermal fillers are instant, so you can see a visible result immediately after injection. It takes up to 4 weeks for the filler to fully integrate into the tissue and some fillers are more cohesive than others.
You are not allowed to smile for a few days after a lip filler. Facial expressions such as smiling, laughing, or frowning should have zero impact on your lip filler. It is actually better for you to smile and gently massage your lips, to help spread the product and produce a more natural end-result.
The most important thing you need to realize is that lip fillers don't just affect the size of your lips; it can completely alter the dimensions of your smile, which is something a lot of people don't realize and something that isn't mentioned enough.
With dermal fillers, most people think your skin will become wrinkly or saggy if you stop getting injections. This is not necessarily true. The effects of the fillers will wear off after months or years, but the treated area is likely to return to its original state.
Best Sleeping Positions After Filler Treatment
Sleeping on your back is the safest position after any cosmetic procedure. The first night after your treatment, sleep with your head elevated (propped up with an extra pillow) to help avoid/reduce swelling and to ensure that the newly-injected filler stays in place.
The treated area will feel different after your injections. It will likely seem fuller than usual due to the presence of the filler and post-treatment swelling. Some tenderness is also to be expected, particularly when the cheeks and temples have been injected. These sensations usually subside within a few weeks.
Drink plenty of water. HA based fillers such as Juvederm work by using the water naturally stored in our tissues, by drinking plenty of water after having a dermal filler treatment it helps the filler hold its chaos and last for longer.
Avoid excessive touching or massaging the treated areas for about 6 hours after the injections. The treated areas can be washed with a gentle cleanser such as Cetaphil® Cerave® or Dove® unscented.
The swelling that can often occur after Lip Fillers can cause the lips to look a little uneven for a short time. This doesn't necessarily mean that anything has gone wrong and it may just take a little time for the product to fully settle and for residual swelling to subside.
Try to sleep on your back for 24-48 hours after filler injections. After that, you can safely sleep on your side without worrying that the filler will move with gravity.
