Girl, exfoliate like crazy tonight, focus on that face, and then hit up the lemon juice trick – it works wonders! Lemon juice mixed with a bit of sugar helps lighten up that tan fast. Just don't forget to moisturize afterward, or you'll end up looking like a dried-up raisin tomorrow!
``If you do get too dark, slather on coconut oil or baby oil and sit for 10 minutes then jump in the shower and exfoliate,'' Hilliard tells me. ``Oil lifts the top layer of color and makes skin easier to exfoliate so it will lighten your tan. You can also soak in a baking soda bath.
“Mix lemon juice with a little baking soda or baby oil. Saturate the skin with the mixture, then let it sit for about five minutes before removing with a cleansing wipe—this will erase the tan entirely,” she says.
Try lemon juice: Lemon juice is a natural bleaching agent that can help to lighten fake tan stains on the skin. Squeeze some fresh lemon juice onto a cotton ball and apply it to the affected area. Let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse with warm water.
For sun tanning, the UV light signals to the melanocytes of your skin to produce melanin to protect the DNA of the epithelial cells. The melanin is what makes your skin ``tan''. Thus, the pigment is intacellular and a simple mechanical washing of the skin, as in a shower, will not remove the pigment.
To get rid of fake tan quickly, try soaking in a warm bath with baby oil, followed by exfoliating with an exfoliating mitt.
A good quality spray tan will last up to a week, though it does vary according to your skin regime and the depth of the spray tan you opt for. A light bronze can fade in around 5 days, while a darker shade will stay put for a good week.
Lemon & Honey
Lemon juice is a strong bleaching agent, which helps lighten colour, including that of excess melanin in the form of tanning. Just mix it with some honey to make sure you don't dry up your skin too much with the highly acidic texture of lemon. Apply this on your skin and let it stay for 30 minutes.
Another way to fix patchy fake tan is with an exfoliator, as gently scrubbing the skin will tone down the colour. Massage our Tan Enhancing Body Polish and Exfoliator onto the streaky areas until the pigment has faded. Top Tip: The key to an even-looking tan is smooth skin.
Cleanse, exfoliate gently, and apply a tan removal face pack. Consider using a de-tan cream, moisturize, and apply sunscreen before sun exposure. Natural ingredients like sunflower, turmeric, lemon juice, cucumber, papaya, and potato aid in sun tan removal.
Getting rid of an old spray tan If you're trying to get rid of an old spray tan, the best tip is to sit in a hot bath with coconut oil added to it. Ensure this is at least a day prior to a fresh spray tan as the oil will disagree with your new tan. After about twenty minutes of soaking, rub off with an abrasive cloth.
Face washes containing salicylic acid and/or benzoyl peroxide are NOT RECOMMENDED because they can eat away at your spray tan. Your face will fade faster as you wash it more frequently. We recommend using gentle cleansers - exfoliating face washes and Clarisonics are NOT RECOMMENDED!
Even though hydrating your skin is the key to prolonging a fake tan, applying oil to the skin can also lift a tan— given it's done right. Cover your body in coconut oil or olive oil and let it soak in for around 15 minutes. Then take a hot shower. If you have a bath, even better!
Spray tan on face is too dark
Most often, looking like you have too dark of a tan on your face is a result of literally using too much solution (remember: two ounces for the entire body, not just the neck up!) or being sprayed with a percentage that is too high for your skin type.
Using body scrub to exfoliate your skin can help to scrub away the tanner. Exfoliation can help to even out an uneven tan, and lighten a too-dark tan. Lemon juice is a great method for removing self-tanner.
“Lightly exfoliating over an area will also help, but the use of an exfoliating mitt will really allow you to lift the darker patches and be more precise.” “[Work] in flat circular motions to lift off darker color and reveal an even tan tone,” she advises.
Apply a mix of lemon juice and baking powder to your skin to instantly lighten your golden glow or to even up a patchy finish.
The Solution: For dark or orangey spray tans, put baby oil on the skin, let it set and then soak in a hot bath for a while. The oil and hot water will help to break down the tan. Once out of the bath, taking a shower and rubbing skin lightly with a loofah or exfoliating mitt is a good idea.
Sun tan can take anywhere between one to four weeks to fade off. However, if you have sensitive skin or if the sun tan is darker or deeper, it might take longer for your tan to go away.
Aloe vera
Aloe vera gel is well-known for its therapeutic qualities and ability to lighten tans. Before bed, apply the plant's fresh aloe vera gel to your skin. Apply it overnight, then remove it with a morning wash. Regular use can reduce tan significantly.
Please note: the tan will continue to develop even after the shower, so do not be alarmed if you're not as tanned as you expect to be. The tan will continue to develop over the next 12-24 hours.
You must avoid the following ingredients when using a moisturizer: Mineral Oil, Petroleum, Paraffins, Paraffinum Liquidum, Ceresine. Curel lotions will fade a tan faster, on some people. Avoid lotions with a high alcohol content such as CeraVe.
