oVertone hair colors are color-depositing hair masks that condition while you color.
Overtone is not a hair color! It's a color depositing conditioner made to maintain your hair color. For example, if I colored my hair with Electric Blue from Special Effects, I would use the Extreme Blue daily conditioner from Overtone to maintain it.
One of the most common questions we get is, “Can I damage my hair if I leave oVertone Coloring Conditioners on too long?” And the answer is NO.
One thing to note is that OVERTONE is not meant to be a one-wash and the color is gone type of deal. Results can range from washes-out-in-a-week to never-coming-out-completely-without-bleach.
Color Deposit: Overtone works by depositing color molecules onto the hair shaft. Even though it doesn't penetrate the hair as deeply as permanent dyes, it still adheres to the cuticle layer of the hair, which can lead to staining, especially if the hair is porous.
OVERTONE's fan-favorite, semi-permanent CDTMs, including the vibrant Ginger Glow, Espresso Brown, Scarlet Red, and Golden Rose, are now available to purchase at all Sally Beauty locations nationwide.
– Begin with a clarifying or dandruff shampoo, washing out as much pigment as possible. oVertone recently released The Fader Shampoo, a clarifying cleanser made to fade semi-permanent color at home or in the shampoo bowl. – Use a professional direct dye remover on remaining color (avoiding oxidative color correctors).
Our favorite color-depositing conditioner is the dpHue Gloss+ thanks to its wide range of shades, easy application, and ability to soften and hydrate hair. For a clear gloss that adds shine to any hair color, we recommend the Pureology Color Fanatic Top Coat + Sheer.
Many of which had probably, like Allure beauty reporter Devon Abelman, found that Overtone's existing color-depositing conditioners didn't really show up on their dark hair — not even the much-loved Extreme Purple products.
If you want to remove Overtone hair color from your hair, just stop using the products. It will fade with time, but there is no immediate fix, as with any hair dye. Like any semi-permanent hair color, it will fade with regular washing, but as far as staying power, the site's before and afters are pretty convincing.
I use Overtone regularly which is not available at Ulta but I've tried Keracolor which is and I liked the results just as much.

It also depends on which color you use. Our Extreme conditioners have way more pigment than our Vibrant or Pastel lines, so there's less chance of permanent staining when using our Vibrant or Pastel conditioners. To be safe, try a little test in a non-visible area of your space.
oVertone Coloring Conditioners are curly-friendly, vegan and cruelty-free. They're also made without peroxide, ammonia, bleach, phthalates, parabens and PPDs.
Any frequencies above the fundamental frequency are overtones. The second frequency of the n = 2 normal mode of the string is the first overtone (or second harmonic). The frequency of the n = 3 normal mode is the second overtone (or third harmonic) and so on.
The good news is: it's as easy as mixing equal parts The Remedy with any Coloring Conditioner to dilute to your desired shade.

A natural-looking colour that effectively covers grey is what most look for at an at-home hair dye, and you'll find exactly that in this one. There's a wide range of shades to choose from too, from a Honey Blonde, all the way through to Infinite Black.
Manic Panic hair colors do not damage hair and contain restorative properties, acting as a conditioner that hydrates and "fills” processed hair.
Dark brown hair has warm tones underneath, which can show up more as you lighten your hair. Sometimes, this can make your hair look orange or brassy, especially if you don't bleach it properly. To avoid this, it's important to use suitable blonde hair dye and follow the instructions.
Step 1: Apply to wet or dry hair — we recommend dry hair for maximum color deposit! Step 2: Apply oVertone Coloring Conditioner liberally to your hair and distribute evenly. Pay special attention to any places where you need an extra boost of color.
If you want more vibrancy blow dry and apply. If you are doing pieces and not the whole head it's easier to apply to dry or towel dried hair. If doing the whole head, it's easier to apply on wet or towel dried hair. If just enhancing your color or don't want it too bright shampoo, apply in shower on wet hair and rinse.
Apply them to clean, wet hair, being sure to saturate strands completely for even coverage. Let sit for 3-15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with *hot* water. That's right: if you like your showers as hot as the sun's surface, you're in luck! Our formulas were made to work even better with warm-hot water.
Our Coloring Conditioners deposit color onto the hair strands. We use colored pigments blended with hair-healthy conditioners to lay on top of the hair strand—a process that protects, hydrates, and adds shine and color. This is a non-damaging process, but, it's also not permanent.
Over toning occurs when the hair is exposed to an excessive amount of toner, resulting in an undesirable and unnatural color. It can leave the hair looking dull, flat, and lacking vibrancy.
