Stage 1: Stubble Beard (Week 1)
This will be true for most of the Vikings out there, and the majority of them will only see some stubble. There is no need to get disheartened or anxious as it is completely normal.
While there is some variation in how long it takes to grow a beard, most men can grow a significant beard within two to four months. But while a long, luxurious beard can be months or even years in the making, a short, trendy style may only require a few days.
Developed facial hair usually follows peach fuzz. It will often get darker and thicker and be more noticeable for a while before it gets as wiry and thick as terminal (ie the finished product) hairs. For most people it starts first on the upper lip and neck and usually fills in last on cheeks.
For those with patchy beard growth, the 3 Month Rule can be a game-changer. By allowing your beard to grow untouched, you give thinner areas a chance to fill in naturally. If you're concerned about the patchiness, remember that it often improves with time and proper care.
The awkward beard stage usually occurs about 2 weeks after the man stops shaving and decides to grow out his beard. The awkward beard stage itself can last up to 2-3 weeks, depending on the amount of hair growth and how severe potential patches in the beard may be.
STAGE 2 OF BEARD GROWTH - PATCHY (WEEK 2-3)
For most men it will be the chin hairs, mustache and jawline. With a patchy beard your face will begin to look like your lazy neighbor's lawn. Healthy in some spots... dry and barren in others.
According to a study published by Evolution and Human Behavior, the optimal beard length for maximum allure is—drumroll, please—'heavy stubble'!
Studies have shown that using a beard roller can increase the thickness and number of hairs in the beard in as little as 4-6 weeks. Additionally, beard rollers can help to reduce itchiness and beardruff, as well as soften and condition the beard. What is beard microneedling?
Many beards don't hit their full stride until the later rounds of growth — what looks patchy at a month may fill in nicely by the third or even sixth month.
On average, facial hair grows about half an inch every month. So a 2 month beard is typically around an inch long. That means you can start doing some light, careful trimming. But beware of going crazy - overdoing it on the trimming at this point is bad news.
There is no specific ethnicity that can't grow facial hair, but East Asian individuals, such as Japanese and Chinese, tend to have less facial hair and slower growth rates compared to other ethnicities.
BEARD OIL - ALMOND & THYME: Almond oil nourishes the beard, promotes growth, treats any damage, and adds lustre. It is suitable for the skin as well, keeping it moisturised, smooth and soft. Thyme makes the hair softer, shinier and more manageable.
The Awkward Stage
When they hit that point, they seem almost out of place because of the lack of area they cover. Rather than a thick, full upper lip, you look a bit patchy. This stage can last up to two months, but the nice part is that it looks better and better as time goes on.
Beard Growth in Mid-20s to 30s
As a matter of fact, most men don't hit peak beard growth until their early to mid thirties. This is when testosterone, the hormone primarily responsible for facial hair growth, peaks. You'll likely notice your beard becoming fuller and more robust.
The 10-day stubble is simply a term to describe facial hair that has grown for 10 days after shaving. Its length is about 4-5mm(or 1/8 long) and it is very similar to heavy stubble. It is the longest stubble beard. Facial hair over 5-6mm long is considered a short beard.
Typically, growing a full beard can take anywhere between 2 to 6 months. However, every beardsman's hair will grow at different rates due to age, genetics, hormone levels, and other factors, so there is no straight answer to how long it could take a person to grow a beard.
How long does the itchy beard stage last? Honestly, it'll differ from person to person since we all have different hair growth rates. For some, it might subside after a few days, while for others it could take a good couple weeks.
Stage 2: Stubble and Early Growth (Weeks 1-4)
Around the one-week mark, you'll notice stubble covering your face and maybe even the early stages of a patchy beard. By the end of the first month, this stubble will begin transitioning into a true short beard.
By 16-17, this growth spreads over the entire upper lip. Around the same time and up until around 18, hair starts extending down from the sideburns as well as the spot under the lower lip. From 17-21, it continues to spread to all of the lower face to form a full beard.
The best beard length for all face shapes is typically the medium-length beard (10-20 mm). This length strikes the perfect balance between rugged and refined, making it suitable for almost all face shapes.
