Keep your Eyelash Extensions dry for 4-6 hours after your appointment. You may wash your face in the sink using a washcloth, avoiding the eye area. Keep all oil based products away from the eyes and remember that everything on your face will travel to the eye area.
Eyelash extensions are delicate. They may fall out if you rub on them with pressure. Instead, use a cleansing brush for gentle rubbing. Stay away from harsh formulations that might irritate your eyelids.
Step-by-step: How to clean eyelash extensions
Use a gentle, oil-free and alcohol-free cleanser – such as a foaming face cleanser, facial soap or baby shampoo – and work it gently into your lashes and over your eyelids.
Resting your head and lashes on a silk pillowcase is ideal when you have eyelash extensions. Not only will it allow your lashes and the extensions themselves to glide on the surface while you sleep, but you will also avoid any lashes getting caught or pulled like when you use a cotton pillowcase.
When Should You Clean Eyelash Extensions? Always wait at least 48 hours after having your extensions applied before attempting to clean your extension. You should also be sure to keep your lashes dry and avoid water and steam until the 48 hour period is over.
This process is nonstop, with people shedding anywhere from 1 to 5 natural eyelashes each day. This means that you could lose 1 to 5 eyelash extensions per day. This is perfectly normal and to be expected with or without lash extensions.
Your lash extensions only last a week!
This often happens when not enough lash extensions have been applied. If you think you've found the cheapest technician around then the chances are they aren't spending enough time during the appointment to provide a long lasting, full lash effect.
Most eyelash extensions look great for anywhere from 2-4 weeks. During that time, the extensions will still look and feel full and fluffy. After your lashes stop looking and feeling great, you'll need to return to your lash artist for a touch-up. Typically, touch-ups are cheaper than the original set of lashes.
When should you clean your lash extensions? Clean your lash extensions every day - or twice a day if you're an eye makeup wearer or have oily skin or eyelids. I recommend cleaning lash extensions at night to remove the day's facial oils, dust, dirt and makeup.
You may have developed Blepharitis! Blepharitis commonly occurs when the tiny oil glands of the inner eyelid become inflamed, Symptoms include red, itchy eyelids that may look greasy and crusted. If you do end up seeing a doctor he/she will probably tell you that you have an infection..
With eyelash extensions you want to wash your face around your lashes. Try not to splash water from the sink over your whole face when it's time to rinse. I carefully remove face wash (I've been using CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser for years now) from all around my face without splashing my eyes.
Like many products on our “not friendly for lashes” list, sprays like hairspray, dry shampoo and setting sprays contain a heavy amount of alcohol-based ingredients. These ingredients are not good for your lash extensions because they can break the adhesive bond between your natural lash and the extension.
Wash face with gentle oil-free cleanser, like Cetaphil. I apply it to the eyelids as well. Use a dilute tea tree oil cleanser to clean at the base of your lashes.
#2: Brush Your Eyelashes Daily
To take care of your eyelash extensions, brush your lashes daily to prevent crisscrossing. A simple 15–20 second sweep through your lashes in the morning will put stray lashes in their place.
Glued to the skin instead of lashes: When eyelash extensions are glued to the skin, it creates something called a nailhead. This will eventually pull out natural lashes and hurt your eyes within days or weeks after the treatment.
To maintain a full, soft and lush look, we recommend only 1 set of refills (or in rare cases an absolute maximum of two) in between each full set. Think of it like this- if you applied hairspray to your hair too many times in between washes, your hair would be stiff and clumpy.
What happens if glue gets in your eyes? During the lash application process your eyes will be closed the entire time. Because of this the likelihood of getting glue into your eyes is slim to none.
Generally it is only normal if you lose between 3 to 5 lashes per day. Your natural eyelashes fall off and regenerates at a reasonable rate. When you rub your eyes some of your natural lashes twist off. But if you lose most of your eyelash extensions within the first week it isn't normal.
What is this? You should avoid gruffly rubbing your eyes when you're crying. Doing so can pull or tug the lash extensions, making them fall out easily. For the same reason, natural eyelashes fall out when you cry a bucket too.
It is perfectly normal and occurs with or without eyelash extensions. Thus, about 20% of our lashes fall out every week. All these phases last a total of 60 to 90 days, which is much faster than the other hairs on our heads - the hair, eyebrows, mustache, and beard - who then have them.
