For wavy or straight hair, use a wire wig brush. For curly textured hair, use a hair pick. Firmly hold the doll by sitting her between your legs, then grasp the neck, but not so hard as to loosen the head. Lightly mist the hair, using just enough water to make it easier to work with.
For the most part, any wide-tooth comb or brush with sturdy bristles will work for curly and coily hair types. However, you'll want to part the hair in multiple sections — creating more parts for kinkier or tighter curls. This will guarantee less tugging and a more thorough detangling session.
For best results, it is recommended to use a wire brush. Divide doll's hair into small sections and gently brush them one at a time. Make sure to brush out the tangles starting from the bottom of the hair and then moving up.
Obviously, you need a brush and not just any brush will do! The best choice for brushing dolls' hair is a wig brush with metal teeth set into a rubber base. Like this one:

3. How to stop a doll's hair from going frizzy? Using fabric softener while detangling, keeping the doll out of direct sun and heat, and brushing using a doll-specific brush, metal tooth doll comb, are some ways to keep frizzy doll hair under control.
Washing Doll Hair
Do not use warm or hot water because the heat can relax curls. Add ¼ teaspoon of baby shampoo. Cover the doll's body with a plastic bag to keep it dry. Turn the doll upside down, swirl it around until her hair is completely wet.
We are not shy about our position on this subject—we recommend using conditioner in several of our hair restoration guides. We have used conditioner on American Girl Doll hair time and time again and achieved excellent restorative results.
For most dolls, fabric softener or baby shampoo are safe to clean your doll's hair. These products soften the hair and help work out tangles. After detangling and softening doll hair, make the effort to brush out hair regularly to avoid such problems in the future.
Samantha was one of the first three characters launched in 1986 by American Girl®, then called The Pleasant Company.
When curly and textured hair is dry, there are tons of these “snapping points,” as Onuoha calls them. But when the hair gets wet and the curl shapes soften, there are fewer snapping points. “That makes the hair easier to glide through, which prevents more breakage in comparison to dry brushing,” Onuoha says.
Grab a section and start brushing from the bottom up, working your way from the ends to the roots. This technique makes detangling easier and helps avoid unnecessary tugging or pulling on your strands.
A big rule of the Curly Girl Method is to finger detangle and to avoid brushes at all costs. The reason behind is the rule is due to hair fallout that occurs from using a brush. Every time you brush your hair, strands fall out and end up on the brush.
Tight curls can be co-washed or shampooed up to a few times per week. If your child's hair feels dry, try washing it less often. Try these tips to avoid tangles: Gently comb through your child's hair with a wide tooth comb before washing.
While brushing curls with a curly hair brush, brush evenly. Combining one section of the hair frequently can break the curl structure, resulting in one section with loose curls and the other with tighter curls. Divide your hair into sections and brush each section with a curly hairbrush to even out the look.
The most important thing to remember when using heat on AG hair is to make sure the hair is soaked in water, otherwise the fibers will melt. Then, using a straightening iron that is on the lowest setting, run over the braids. I did this with my Marie-Grace doll years ago and her hair is still going strong.
Condition (Optional): If the doll's hair is very dry or frizzy, you can apply a small amount of conditioner or fabric softener. Let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing it out completely. Dry the Hair: Gently squeeze out excess water and pat the hair dry with a towel.
A moisturizing conditioner that is specifically adapted to dry hair is recommended. Hair oil is the last step in the hair care routine and a perfect way to quickly reduce frizz in the hair. Argan Hair Oil can be used daily and be left in the hair after application.
