For some, getting their fillers dissolved is painful, whereas for others it doesn't hurt as much as getting filler in the first place. Numbing solution or anaesthetic is applied before the filler dissolving enzyme is used, in order to make it as comfortable as possible.
Does getting your lip filler dissolved hurt? Unfortunately, having your lip filler dissolved isn't exactly pain-free. Mr Olivier Branford says, "the lips are an extremely sensitive part of the body due to the high number of nerve endings present, so it can be a painful and eye-watering experience."
Like with any injectables, dissolving lip fillers can cause discomfort, but generally speaking, it shouldn't be painful. 'It can sting a little bit but it's not excessively painful. I always use a topical anaesthetic cream to reduce the discomfort for the patients,' explains Dr Chantrey.
Dissolving lip filler is essential for maintaining the integrity and structure of the lips. So, the short answer is that it's necessary to undergo a dissolving procedure when filler migration (i.e., the shifting of filler beyond the inner or outer border of the lip) occurs, affecting the appearance of your lips.
This is possibly the most serious complication. The enzyme used in lip dissolving may not only dissolve the lip filler but could also dissolve the surrounding tissue of the lips. The injection of the enzyme can cause blood vessels around the lips to become squashed, which leads to the tissue being deprived of blood.
These patients report that hyaluronidase injections into the original treatment area (e.g. just the lips or just the cheekbones) has caused volume loss, sagging, and textural changes in all facial regions (e.g. one patient had the Restylane in her lips dissolved and attributes her under eye hollows to that treatment).
It's important to avoid facial scrubs or rubbing the area for 24 hours post-treatment. Sunbathing and direct sunlight should be avoided for the next 24 hours. You should avoid swimming for 24 hours after your appointment. Strenuous exercise will need to be avoided for 24 hours post-treatment.
A published journal article states that higher doses [of hy'dase] can lead to damage of native extracellular matrix glycosaminoclycans, leaving a gaunt appearance with poor skin texture (Figure 4). Patients are increasingly presenting with hyaluronidase-related damage, which is often untreatable.
Depending on how much filler was initially injected, it can sometimes take two treatments to dissolve all the filler, but the results will almost be immediate! What are the Risks of Dissolving Lip Filler?
You won't be able to have a dermal filler treatment immediately after your Hyalase treatment, as the product needs time to dissolve the older filler and for your lips to settle into their natural shape and projection. Expect to wait for 10 to 14 days before new filler can be administered.
Many people notice results within just a few days. Keep in mind that your lips might temporarily appear fuller after the procedure. This can happen due to a combination of mild swelling from the injections and extra volume from the dissolving fluid.

Because dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring skin compound, they are naturally dissolved by your body over a period of 6 – 18 months. This process uses a compound called hyaluronidase.

A couple things about hyaluronidase 1. It takes 2-3 days to dissolve the filler 2. It may take an additional 2 weeks for absorption of filler/hyaluronidase to occur 3.
Avoid any heat-inducing activities for 24 hours such as strenuous exercise, spas, saunas and hot showers.
Hyaluronidase cannot destroy other natural tissue such as collagen, however, it can break down natural hyaluronic acid at the same time as denaturing the HA filler product.
Hyaluronidase injections are highly targeted, so they will dissolve hyaluronic acid filler before they dissolve any natural hyaluronic acid. Our skin and tissues are not broken down by injected hyaluronidase, however.
“You can re-do the lip filler in as soon as one day to one week, depending on how much has been dissolved and how you feel,” she notes. “If there is bruising, it would be best to wait a few days for that to resolve before re-treating.”
The filler will start to break down and soften immediately, although depending on the location and how much needs to be dissolved, it may take up to two weeks for it to completely dissolve and settle back to natural.
