Derm Shield offers maximum breathability and flexibility, providing optimal conditions for gentle healing and skin renewal. It eliminates scabbing and reduces the risk of scarring, while preventing exposure to bacteria, dirt, and abrasion.
When applied immediately after your tattoo session, Saniderm protects your tattoo from dirt and bacteria. and germs. Saniderm also reduce scabbing (which is detrimental your tattoo), reduces pain, and keeps your ink locked in for a more vibrant tattoo.
The first Derm Shield application should stay in place for 24 hours, depending on level of exudation. It is normal for blood and fluids to collect under the bandage. A second application can be used for several days, and a third application may be used if necessary. Gently clean and dry the area between applications.
When this happens, longer healing times are required and scabbing and scarring occur. Tegaderm locks in these healing elements and allows the skin to continue to function as normal because the bandage is permeable to oxygen and water vapor (breathable).
It accelerates the healing process a bit, and allows you to not have to worry or maintain the tattoo for the first few days.
Not only is the second skin tattoo covering amazing and helps to prevent scabbing, the tattoo cream is great!
Saniderm is another high-quality tattoo aftercare bandage for those of you who are Team Bandage in lieu of washes and balms. It's another staple in tattoo shops everywhere, but you'll find it's a little thicker and slightly less flexible than the Derm Shield bandage.
To help the injured skin heal, use petroleum jelly to keep the wound moist. Petroleum jelly prevents the wound from drying out and forming a scab; wounds with scabs take longer to heal. This will also help prevent a scar from getting too large, deep or itchy.
Saniderm's adhesive will not attach to the weeping area (the oozy part) of a tattoo, therefore it can never damage or pull out ink.
You should note that saniderm/Recovery-derm/ Tegaderm are all the same thing, just different brands. Wash your hands and remove the original saniderm slowly, THOROUGHLY CLEAN THE TATTOO WITH ANTIBACTERIAL, FRAGRANCE FREE SOAP.
While an air bubble under Saniderm is not necessarily “bad,” it will likely cause problems with adhesion further on down the line.
Healing With Saniderm
Alternatively, if the fluid that collected beneath your Saniderm has dried out or has become itchy or uncomfortable, it is perfectly okay to remove the bandage and begin washing/caring for your tattoo -- even if this happens before the 3-5 day mark!
A number of things make tattoo scabbing more likely. These include not following proper aftercare practices, a heavy-handed tattoo artist, or an infection. And while not all tattoos scab, it's pretty common for most tattoos to experience some sort of scabbing.
Again, removing the scab prematurely could damage skin and remove color from the new tattoo or distort the shape. You may be able to decrease scabbing of your new tattoo by keeping it covered with a tattoo bandage for the first 24 hours followed by a second application that can be worn for an additional 3 to 5 days.
Can you leave a Saniderm bandage on for too long? Yes, you can leave a Saniderm bandage on for too long. In fact, this is not recommended because your tattoo may not receive enough oxygen to properly heal and can become infected.
Some peeling is not uncommon during the tattoo healing process with Saniderm. However, it is not normal for a tattoo to be scabbing under the tattoo bandage.
Saniderm works by locking in your body's natural healing fluids so your tattoo stays hydrated and heals quickly and efficiently with no scabbing and reduced scarring.
SANIDERM AFTERCARE
Leave the Saniderm on for 3-5 days - do not leave it on for over 5. While the Saniderm is on: You do not need to do anything to the tattoo. You may notice excess ink pooling inside of the bandage - this is normal.
There are diverse factors contributing to or causing wounds to not heal to name a few, poor blood circulation, chronic conditions, surgical complications, and infections. Insight into these factors and understanding how they affect wound healing will help tailor suitable and effective wound management.
Moisture helps new skin cells form and repair the wound. This may also apply to scabs. Keeping a scab moist with petroleum jelly and protected with a bandage may help the wound heal faster than if you leave the scab dry. Whether the scab is dry or moist, it's important to make sure it doesn't peel off prematurely.
Keeping a wound clean and covering it with a layer of petroleum jelly, such as plain Vaseline, can retain moisture and prevent a wound from scabbing over.
Saniderm bandages are durable enough to maintain a regular, light exercise routine without compromising your new tattoo. However, increased perspiration, prolonged movement, or excessive friction in or around the tattooed area could weaken the bandage's adhesion, potentially compromising its seal.
Saniderm is both latex free and hypoallergenic, so allergic reactions are very rare. However, some people may have sensitive skin or allergies to adhesives. If you do experience a rash, abnormal skin irritation, or other symptoms of an allergic reaction, discontinue use and wash with mild soap.
If it does leak out (and the seal between the second skin and your skin is broken), remove the bandage and continue with aftercare as instructed below.
