AVOID any irritants on and around the area, such as any products containing Hydroquinone, bleaching creams, Retin-A, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic/salicylic acids or astringents for at least 5-7 days after your Microneedling treatment.
Micro needling treatments with the MD Needle Pen in combination with lightening/brightening creams can boost results for persistent or deep hyperpigmentation (melasma). These ingredients lighten the skin and inhibit melanin production: Hydroquinone , Kojic Acid and Arbutin.
Do not use products that will cause irritation during this time. Please do not use any scrubs, toners, glycolic acid, retinoids (RetinA or retinol), or bleaching creams (hydroquinone) until your skin has healed, unless otherwise directed by your doctor.
4. Stop any retinols, topical antibiotics, exfoliants, hydroquinone and benzoyl peroxide products 48 hours before your treatment.

Hyaluronic acid can be used following microneedling, and it's even recommended in some cases to help stimulate collagen production after your procedure. If your skin feels dry, it's generally safe to apply coconut oil as an emollient to lock in moisture and hydrate your face after microneedling.
Discontinue autoimmune therapies and retinoid products 24 hours prior to beginning treatment. Do not treat over active acne, rosacea, or other inflammatory conditions. Do not treat over open wounds. Do not use the device inside of orbital rim, such as eyelids or inside the vermillion border of the lips.
Avoid intensive sunlight exposure and artificial UV exposure for a period of at least 4 weeks after the procedure. Fake tan should not be applied for 7 days following a Dermaroller treatment.
Vitamin C pairs wonderfully with nano-needling though, so definitely try to include this ingredient into your routine without any risk of irritation.
On the day of your treatment, do not apply any makeup, lotion or sunscreen to the treatment area. If you're targeting your face, wash your face with a gentle facial cleanser before you come in for your appointment. If you are targeting your body, wash with a gentle soap that will not irritate your skin.
Hyaluronic acid serums are the best and most commonly used type for microneedling because of their hydrating properties. Other great alternatives include peptides, ceramides, and EGF. Just make sure to avoid retinoids, Vitamin C, and other serums that contain acids (AHA, BHA, and lactic acid).
Can microneedling make the pigmentation worse? Microneedling may worsen dark spots if your skin scars or becomes inflamed easily. If this is the case, microneedling may cause more inflammation. Following this, your body will send white blood cells to fight off bacteria and infection.
She continues: "It is a treatment for scarring so it shouldn't cause scars. However, darker skins are more likely to get post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation." Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) refers to the dark marks or skin staining that can occur after treatment.
Microneedling does a tremendous job of lightening and reversing hyperpigmentation and sun damage. This is again due to the power of collagen production and its ability to repair and restore your skin. There's some research that suggests that microneedling is the most effective therapy for sun spots.
Micro-needling can be safely repeated every 2-4 weeks until you achieve the desired results. For collagen induction, we recommend starting with 3 treatments, but with a minimum separation time of 2 weeks between treatments. For scar reduction, an average of 6 treatments are recommended.
Fine Lines and Loose Skin
This happens because our bodies produce less collagen over time, taking away our skin's structure. This is most noticeable in sagging skin, but it's the reason behind wrinkles and uneven skin texture too.
Although the number of sessions can vary, most people need three to six sessions for optimal results. With this in mind, you may spend anywhere from $600 to $4,200 overall.
After Microneedling Treatment
Wait at least four hours to wash your face. Your skin may feel warm and tight and look red for one to three days. During this period, use a delicate cleanser and moisturizer, and apply 1% hydrocortisone cream as needed to soothe skin irritation.
Swelling and redness are normal after microneedling treatments. It will most likely persist for at least 24 – 48 hours. Even with proper aftercare, there isn't much you can do to get rid of the redness immediately after the procedure, so be patient.
It's generally advised to stay away from hot or cold water directly on the face for 24-48 hours after microneedling treatment. Another beauty tip that can also help is to avoid the use of salicylic acids or hydroxy acids for a week post-treatment, as the skin may not have healed enough to withstand the effects.
Hydroquinone is considered by many to be the gold standard treatment for pigmentation. “Hydroquinone blocks the production of pigmentation by inhibiting tyrosinase,” explains Dr Jack, adding that it does so in a particularly potent way.
For optimal results and maximum scar reduction, three to six treatments are recommended to be spaced out between two to six weeks. After the treatment, patients tend to experience mild redness and some swelling. These symptoms should be minimal and last no longer than a week.
