Microblading post-care is very important to the final appearance and longevity of your new eyebrows. Don't let any water, lotion, soap, or makeup touch your eyebrow area during the first 7 days after your procedure.
Things to Avoid:
Applying any makeup, moisturizer, lotion, or sunscreen to your eyebrows. Laser or chemical peels, and any other form of exfoliation. Applying any creams to your face or neck containing retinol or glycolic acid. Engaging in tasks like heavy household cleaning where airborne debris can become prevalent.
Microblading After Care: Cleansing and Aftercare:
On the first day, let your brows relax and do not wet, apply moisturizer, or touch them. From days 2 to 7, gently wash your eyebrows twice daily with water and an antibacterial soap like Cetaphil or Neutrogena. Use your fingertips to cleanse the area gently.
I recommend a thin layer of A&D ointment or aquaphor!
Do not let any water, lotion, soap, or makeup touch your eyebrow area during the first 7 days after your procedure. Please wash your face carefully around the eyebrow without getting water on the treated area. During the shower, keep your face away from the shower head or take a bath.
Do not use Vaseline as a moisturiser—only as a water barrier. If your eyebrows do get wet, gently pat them dry with a clean tissue. Keep your hair away from your eyebrows to avoid introducing bacteria.
The worst days after microblading are typically the first two, when you'll likely experience puffiness, redness, and tenderness.
- Picking, Peeling, Scratching, or Hitting/Slapping your eyebrows. This will cause you to lose pigment, can cause scaring or hyperpigmentation, etc. Slapping or Hitting your eyebrows can cause the lines in your eyebrows to bleed into other parts of your skin.
As it turns out, moisturizing your eyebrows with your face cream is a simple technique that nixes the need for an eyebrow growth serum—the strengthening properties of your facial moisturizer can work magic on your brows, just as it does on your skin.
Around days eight or nine of the healing process, your brows may take on a spooky appearance, appearing faded, gray, or even patchy. This is known as the microblading ghosting phase. The fading is a regular and temporary part of the healing process. Your bold, beautiful brows will make their triumphant return.
No Pressure On Your Brows
By sleeping on your back, you eliminate the risk of pressing your face into the pillow. This prevents scabs from being removed prematurely and ensures that the pigment remains undisturbed.
The absolute best results come from keeping your brows extremely DRY for the next 10 days! Keeping them dry makes them retain more detail, better color, and more crisp strokes, so it's worth it. It sounds tricky- but can be done if you're mindful of it.
Microblading Healing Process Day 7-10:
Your brows will have probably flaked off and the color will seem too light. This is because you're viewing the pigment in the top layer of the skin. But just wait because the pigment does come back and we'll explain why when we get there.
Apply a rice grain amount of aftercare ointment with a cotton swab and spread it across the treated area. Be sure not to over-apply, as this will suffocate your skin and delay the healing process. The ointment should be barely noticeable on the skin. Never put the ointment on while your eyebrows are wet or damp.
Aquaphor Healing Ointment
It's important to make sure there are no added antibiotics or harsh ingredients that can break down pigment in your brows. Nika says Cavilon Barrier Cream will also work, but cautions against Vaseline or A&D Ointment, which can barricade the area too much.
Botched eyebrow microblading can result in uneven shapes, unnatural colors, or overly thick brows. A professional consultation is the first step to assessing and fixing bad eyebrow microblading. Corrections can include reshaping, color adjustment, or a touch-up to improve brow appearance.
Sweat. For the same reason that water should be avoided during the healing/scabbing process after microblading, sweat should also be avoided. Sweat comes from the inside of the skin and can push the pigment out and cause the microblading strokes not to retain.
For best results please THOROUGHLY read and follow aftercare instructions. Please do not hesitate to contact your therapist with any concerns. Avoid all makeup, soap, cleansers and moisturisers on and around your brows for next three weeks as it could lead to healing difficulties.
Stay out of direct sunlight in the aftermath of your microblading session. It is important that sun exposure is minimized during the healing process, and using SPF on the brows or covering the face with a hat or visor when you are out in the sun will help keep your brows looking fresh.
