Olive oil is very hard to wash out, so Scalia recommends using it prior to shampooing your hair as a moisturizing treatment. You can leave it in for about 15 minutes and then wash it out with a clarifying shampoo and a replenishing conditioner. Lal recommends doing this once or twice a week.
Massage olive oil into your dry scalp and comb out dandruff flakes. Leave olive oil in your hair and cover with a shower cap for extra conditioning.
Oils and grime can be trapped, creating odor
When you don't wash your hair, oils may accumulate on your scalp. This can cause odor on the scalp and hair. If you use hair care products, these can also build up on your scalp and create odors, even if the products themselves smell good.
Olive Oil in Hair Overnight
You can use olive oil a deep conditioner overnight if you need some extra moisture. After experimenting with leaving olive oil in my hair overnight, I recommend a protective style such as a braid, high bun, or twists if you have course hair.
Immediately after you have the shower, apply and light layer of extra virgin olive oil on your skin. Extra virgin olive oil penetrates deeply to regenerate cells and soften the tissue. This helps to retain the moisture and make this skin smooth and soft.
Avoid washing off oil too soon – Let your hair feed on the nourishment of an oil massage – don't just shower right away. Let the oil remain for at least an hour. 2. Combing or tying too tightly after oiling – Combing or tying hair into a tight pony or braid just after oiling hair will weaken the roots and damage hair.

"Likely not all the olive oil will wash out and then when the garment is dried using heat the spot becomes a stain set in the garment." Instead, Brown says it's better to dab the stain with your dry white washcloth (with some baking soda or salt) and then take it to the dry cleaners.

Avoid leaving oil in overnight
The longer, the better — that may be true for some hair treatments but not for hair oiling as the oil can block your hair follicles. Unless an ayurvedic doctor or expert has asked you to leave a medicated oil overnight, wash out the oil within 3-4 hours.
Oil your hair no more than 1 to 2 times a week. Leave it on for approximately an hour or two but you don't need to leave it on longer than that. When you leave oil on too long you run the risk of zits because oil will run down onto your skin and you also don't add any real benefit by leaving it on longer.
For most people, the only risk of applying olive oil to their hair is that the hair will be left greasy and weighed down instead of feeling soft and silky.
Olive oil might be a better hair oil, though.
It softens hair texture and makes it a lot silkier than coconut oil does, and is more moisturising, even though coconut oil is an inexpensive and beneficial oil as well. So we're saying, for special occasions, keep a bottle of olive oil handy for a nice head massage.
Dry or Wet Hair? Some women prefer applying olive oil treatments to wet and recently conditioned hair while others want their hair to be dry. If your hair is wet and conditioned, it will lock in the moisture and additional nutrients when the olive oil is applied.
Moisture only comes from water. If you apply oils on dry hair, then even the silkiest, most softening, non-drying oil could leave your hair feeling dry. That's because even nondrying oils create a hydrophobic film that can lock out a lot of hydration.
