Most makeup is made from an oil base or uses minerals that block pores and potentially interfere with natural skin shedding, both of which can make it more difficult for your skin to recover after this treatment.
This innovative procedure boosts the amount of collagen in the skin, leading to a plumper and healthier appearance. There are minor side effects, including facial redness and discomfort, but most patients report little pain from the treatment. You will be able to start wearing makeup 2 – 3 days after your appointment.
How Soon After Skin Needling Can I Wear Makeup? Some people can wear makeup without problems within three to five days of skin needling. However, makeup should not be worn until you have been given the okay by your dermatologist.
Avoid exfoliants, retinols, and vitamin C
Avoid any skin care product that contains harsh chemicals meant to exfoliate. Avoid anything that's scented, and don't use glycolic acid or alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs). Retinol and vitamin C serum should be avoided for at least the first 48 hours after microneedling.
After 90 minutes, many patients choose to stay makeup-free to give their skin more time to breathe. If you want to wear makeup so you can return to work without looking red, mineral powder is an ideal choice. Make sure to use a clean brush when you apply it to avoid introducing bacteria to your skin.
Aftercare Tips after a Facial Treatment. Here are some basic skincare habits you can incorporate immediately after a facial treatment for longer-lasting effects. 1. Avoid putting on makeup or other facial products for at least 6 hours after your treatment.
Avoid saunas, steam rooms and hot baths or showers until the redness is gone. -Avoid waxing and any other skin care treatment for two weeks following the treatment. -After 2-3 days you can return to regular skin care products or as soon as it is comfortable to do so.
We recommend moisturizing your face in the morning so your face feels comfortable and hydrated all day. If you have naturally dry skin, you should moisturize your skin twice daily. Gentle moisturizers that won't irritate your skin include Aquaphor, Cetaphil and Vaseline.
First Few Days: Continue gentle cleansing and moisturizing over the next few days. Avoid scrubbing, rubbing, or using exfoliants for 1 week. Apply sunscreen daily and you can use makeup if needed starting the day after treatment.
After Microneedling Treatment
Wait at least four hours to wash your face. Your skin may feel warm and tight and look red for one to three days. During this period, use a delicate cleanser and moisturizer, and apply 1% hydrocortisone cream as needed to soothe skin irritation.
Vitamin C pairs wonderfully with nano-needling though, so definitely try to include this ingredient into your routine without any risk of irritation.
No need to worry, because anything “off” you notice on your face after microneedling is temporary and will clear up in a few days. Those prone to acne breakouts might also experience a flare-up, especially if you currently have active acne lesions at the treatment site.
You also will want to stay clear of using any exfoliating skin tools (for one week) or undergoing any cosmetic practices (for at least two weeks) during the healing process. Caffeine, alcohol and processed foods dehydrate your skin and can slow your body's healing process.
Discoloration caused by skin needling is rare, but can occur if the needle depth is 1.5 mm or deeper, and the procedure is done too frequently. This negligence can cause irritation in the skin which can be one possible cause to post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation.
Why do some people break out directly following a facial? During a facial, skin is well stimulated and much of what's below the surface is encouraged to come up and out. If extractions are not done well then pores and pimples may have left over debris that come to a head in the following days.
It depends. We don't recommend wearing makeup after stronger treatments like chemical peels. When you exfoliate at home, make sure you follow that with a good moisturizer. If you notice dry skin accompanied by redness (especially on the cheekbones), it could be a sign that you are exfoliating too much.
Your face will be a little red after extraction, and you might be tempted to reach for the concealer, but resist. Applying makeup right after you've thoroughly cleansed your pores will erase all of your hard work. To avoid fresh breakouts, try to clean your brushes and equipment before applying makeup again.
Before the procedure starts it is important to thoroughly remove the cream from the skin. Any cream that is left over can potentially be pushed deeper into the dermis by the needles.
Most people get microneedling on the face, but it can also done on other parts of the body, such as your stomach or thighs.
As a general rule of thumb, microneedling treatment can be safely done about once a month or every 4 to 6 weeks.
Some at-home microneedling devices can actually worsen acne scars because they creates too much skin damage. If you are considering microneedling, I always recommend speaking to a board-certified dermatologist in order of avoid harming your skin any further.
Most reputable sources will recommend using a hyaluronic acid, or HA serum, during and after microneedling. This is because hyaluronic acid is naturally occurring in our bodies already and is less likely to be rejected or trigger an adverse reaction.
Hyaluronic acid serums are the best and most commonly used type for microneedling because of their hydrating properties. Other great alternatives include peptides, ceramides, and EGF. Just make sure to avoid retinoids, Vitamin C, and other serums that contain acids (AHA, BHA, and lactic acid).
Swelling and redness are normal after microneedling treatments. It will most likely persist for at least 24 – 48 hours. Even with proper aftercare, there isn't much you can do to get rid of the redness immediately after the procedure, so be patient.
