If you're using a tanning bed make sure you take care of your skin with a hydrating lotion! Keeping your skin extra moisturized is key and the niacinamide in our Vanilla Lux Moisturizer will do just that 🥰 🎥: @Carmen Paige #tanningsalon #tanningbed #tanningtips #niacinamide #hempz #vanillagirl.
Moisturize just before tanning
Fake tan can often cling to very dry areas, so make sure that your skin is well-hydrated. Use a moisturizer every day in the week leading up to tan application, then moisturize very dry areas, such as elbows, knees, ankles, feet and hands, 2 to 3 hours before tanning.
There are a few things you can use in place of tanning lotion, including body butters, and aloe vera gel.
☀️Tanning Tip Tuesday☀️ How to avoid the “bunny tail” or white spots on lower back or under your arms or sides: ✅ when using a lay down bed always reposition your body every few minutes to achieve an even tan. Switch from side to side and rest your arms behind your head .
Avoid wearing make-up, perfume or deodorant on the day of the tanning bed session. That's because these chemicals can negatively impact the even result of the final tan. For the same reason, please don't wear watches or jewellery.
If you're using our lay-down or stand-up sun beds, we recommend starting back at 4 or 5 minutes for your first few sun beds. Having fewer minutes more frequently will build you a darker, longer-lasting tan faster than visiting just once a week and opting for more minutes.
Tanning Bed Tips for Pale Skin
To prevent burning, it's essential to start with a lower-level bed and gradually increase the level as your skin becomes more accustomed to UV rays. Additionally, you should limit your tanning sessions to shorter lengths, such as 3 minutes, and work your way up to longer sessions.
Avoid using harsh or fragranced products immediately after tanning, as they may further irritate the skin.
Best Positions to Get an Even Tan
Start Flat: Begin your session lying flat on your back. This position exposes the largest surface area of your body to UV rays. Leg Lift: After some time, lift your legs slightly.
Before Your Tan
Ensure you wear UV protective eye wear during every tanning session. Before you get into your tanning bed, use a professional indoor tanning lotion to double your colour in one session to make your tan last twice as long.
No, you don't need to flip over in a tanning bed. In fact, many people tan stomach-down because it's more comfortable that way. However, if you want an evenly distributed tan, then you should flip over halfway through your session so that both sides of your body get equal exposure to the UV rays.
How quickly will I tan on a sunbed? The speed of tanning varies by skin type. Fair skin (Type I) shouldn't use a sunbed and (Type II) may take 5-7 sessions, while medium skin (Types III and IV) often see results in 3-5 sessions.
This means that to achieve the same results as being in the sun, you won't need to be in the sunbed for nearly as long. A good example of just how different the results are taking into account that ten minutes in a sunbed compares to about 2 hours in direct sunlight.
Moderate tanning of 2-3 sessions a week is OK for everyone else but ensure you rest the skin for a minimum of 24 hours between each session and at least 48 hours for skin type 2. The European Standard advises not to exceed 60 sessions per annum.
The professional indoor tanning industry promotes and teaches what we refer to as The Golden Rule of Smart Tanning: Don't ever sunburn. The indoor tanning industry has been more effective at teaching sunburn prevention than those who promote complete sun avoidance.
You'll want to shower, shave and exfoliate at least a day before your tan (preferably two!). We recommend using our Premier Collection® body washes as the perfect pre-tan prep. Exfoliating is especially important. If you don't have time for a deep exfoliation, using a loofah, brush or bath puff will work just fine.
Level 3 offers medium pressure lamps with lower UV rays and more UVA rays, providing a faster and deeper tan than Level 1 and Level 2. And finally Level 4 tanning beds (and up) feature ridiculously fast tanning times, with sometimes next to zero UVB rays, guaranteeing a dark tan with virtually no chance of a sunburn.
Aftersun creams and lotions such as Aloe Vera lotion will help with cooling down the skin. Many people keep Aloe Vera plants in their homes for several different purposes. If you have an Aloe Vera plant at home, cut one of the leaves from the plant and rub the aloe sap directly onto the burn for cooling relief.
