A new product currently known as “RT002” is being developed by Revance Therapeutics as a long-lasting alternative to Botox. Also known as Daxibotulinumtoxin A, this product is injected into the target muscles just like Botox, but is shown to last up to 6 months instead of the 3 to 4 months that Botox lasts.
Jeuveau, however, was formulated for aesthetic use only. It's the only botulinum injectable on the market that is designed to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles. Also, several studies have shown that Jeuveau may give longer-lasting results than Botox. Most patients enjoy beautiful results for three to four months.
The bottom line. Botox Cosmetic and Jeuveau both work well at improving the look of wrinkles, but Botox is approved to treat more types of wrinkles than Jeuveau. Both can cause mild side effects, and they should both be administered by a trained healthcare professional in a medical setting.
Comparing the Cost of BOTOX® and Jeuveau
BOTOX® usually costs between $10 and $20 per unit, depending on where you're getting your injections and how qualified your injector is. Jeuveau is expected to cost 20-30% less or about $8 to $16 per unit.
The results of Jeuveau can last anywhere from five to six months. This, again, contrasts with alternative neuromodulators that can only offer results lasting between three and four months at most. However, as with any anti-aging treatment, the durability of the treatment results varies from person to person.
As a premium brand, the list price is $610 per 100-unit vial.
The number of units vary by injector and site of injection, said Dr Jonathan Weiss, dermatologist, Gwinnett Dermatology, Snellville, Georgia. Glabellar lines usually require 15–25 units, whereas the forehead usually requires 10–25 units, Weiss said.
Jeuveau® is also a neurotoxin like Botox® and it can be injected in between the eyebrows or at the corners of the eyes to stop the natural muscle contractions that form the wrinkles. It can also prevent new lines from forming and smooth out the old ones which could potentially deepen with time.
How Quickly Does Jeuveau Work? After your first session of Jeuveau, you can expect to see results in about two to ten days. Of course, the full results will vary from person to person, as with any cosmetic treatment.
Evolus Inc. rose after its rival to the Botox wrinkle treatment was allowed to remain for sale in the U.S. temporarily while an appeals court considers staying an import ban won by AbbVie Inc.'s Allergan that was to go into effect Tuesday. Daewoong Pharmaceutical Co.
BOTOX, Dysport, Xeomin and Jeuveau are all injections involving BTX. The difference between them lies in their specific formulation of BTX. BOTOX uses onabotulinumtoxinA; Dysport uses abobotulinumtoxinA; Xeomin uses incobotulinumtoxinA; and Jeuveau uses botulinum toxin type A.
JEUVEAU is supplied in a single-dose 100 Unit vial.
Dysport is more diluted than Botox. The difference in concentration typically occurs because Dysport uses smaller protein molecules to induce muscle relaxation. These smaller proteins are less likely to be broken down by antibodies, making the results of Dysport injections quite desirable for patients.
Caution should be used when JEUVEAU treatment is used in patients who have marked facial asymmetry, ptosis, excessive dermatochalasis, deep dermal scarring, thick sebaceous skin or when subjects do not respond to 20 Units of botulinum toxin (e.g. the inability to substantially lessen glabellar lines even by physically ...
Jeuveau injections should be spaced at least 3 months apart. The effects of a Jeuveau injection are temporary. Your symptoms may return completely within 3 months. After repeat injections, it may take less and less time before your symptoms return, especially if your body develops antibodies to the botulinum toxin.
Jeuveau® can always be added but once it is injected there is no way to reverse it other than waiting. The results of Jeuveau® typically will last about three months.
The FDA approved JEUVEAU based on evidence from two clinical trials (Trial 1/NCT02334423 and Trial 2/NCT02334436) of 654 adult patients with moderate to severe glabellar lines (wrinkles between the eyebrows).
Xeomin may be “mildly more convenient” than Botox or Jeuveau, as the “product's lack of complex proteins will help prevent antibody formation, or resistance to neuromuscular treatment with botulinum type A toxin, in patients being treated for neuromuscular conditions.”
Dysport takes about 2 to 4 days for results to appear, and lasts about 4 months. Jeuveau takes about 3 to 5 days for results to appear, and lasts about 3 to 4 months.
Botox has the advantage of being around longer, making it a trusted brand. This means that most patients interested in injectables would opt for Botox. However, Xeomin is just as effective at reducing wrinkles in areas like eyebrows, the forehead, and around the eyes.
A perfect greeting, not just because they rhyme (Jeuveau is pronounced as jū-vō), but it's also a timely welcome to this “#NewTox On the Block.” That's right.
Xeomin for Cosmetic Anti-Aging
FDA approved in 2010, Xeomin has several cosmetic and medical uses. People frequently choose this injection when they seek an alternative to Botox for frown lines. To correctly pronounce its name, say “zee oh min.”
About Xeomin
This medicine is used to treat eyelid, neck muscle, and hand and arm muscle spasms. It is also used to decrease drooling and to treat frown lines on the face. The lowest GoodRx price for the most common version of Xeomin is around $481.53, 36% off the average retail price of $758.28.
The average cost of Xeomin treatment may range from $12 to $20 per vial, or $10 to $18 per unit. The total cost of the treatment will depend on the total surface area to be treated, and the condition of contracted muscles in a particular patient.
