A typical fungus consists of a mass of branched, tubular filaments enclosed by a rigid cell wall. The filaments, called hyphae (singular hypha), branch repeatedly into a complicated, radially expanding network called the mycelium, which makes up the thallus, or undifferentiated body, of the typical fungus.

Body Plan of Fungi. Most fungi are filamentous—cylindrical cells are attached end-to-end to form a hypha. Collectively,the hyphae form a mycelium that penetrates the substance in which the fungus is growing. Under some circumstances, the hyphae grow in compacted masses such as a mushroom.

Animal Body Planes and Cavities
A midsagittal plane divides the body exactly in the middle, making two equal right and left halves. A frontal plane (also called a coronal plane) separates the front from the back. A transverse plane (or, horizontal plane) divides the animal into upper and lower portions.
A body (Latin: corpus) is the physical material of an organism. It is only used for organisms which are in one part or whole. There are organisms which change from single cells to whole organisms: for example, slime molds. For them the term 'body' would mean the multicellular stage.

Structure of Fungi

Fungi have been classically characterized and classified by the appearance of their colony (color, size, etc), hyphal organization (septate or coenocytic), and the structure and organization of reproduction spores.
