If you get your Saniderm wet, it's no big deal! Saniderm stays on skin even when wet. Saniderm also prevents unwanted contaminants such as soaps and shampoos from coming into contact with your freshly tattooed skin. This helps to minimize any unnecessary irritation you may experience from these factors.
If at any point your Saniderm peels up to expose part of the tattoo, or fills up with liquid from an outside source (such as water from the sink or shower), remove the Saniderm completely and swap over to the dry heal method for the remainder of the healing period.
While we don't recommend taking a bath or going swimming after applying your Saniderm, taking a shower isn't an issue. Saniderm is a medical-grade, waterproof bandage, that allows you to shower anytime.
Getting your new tattoo too wet can prevent it from healing properly, and it might end up looking patchy. It's super important to keep your new tattoo clean. So having a shower is the best choice so you can wash your tattoo but not fully submerge it in water.
Too much heat can separate the bandage from the skin, inflame the skin, and irritate the tattoo. For these reasons, bathing, swimming, or fully submerging a tattoo dressed in Saniderm is strongly discouraged.
If you've somehow got your tattoo wet by submerging it in water, there are steps to take that can potentially help. Dr. Shirazi recommends cleansing it with a gentle cleanser, patting it dry, and applying a healing ointment from Aquaphor or CeraVe.
Showering while wearing Saniderm is fine, but it's best to keep the time spent in the shower to a minimum. Bathing, swimming, or fully submerging a tattoo dressed in Saniderm is strongly discouraged. Light exercise while wearing Saniderm is fine, but avoid activity that causes excessive sweating.
SecondSkin is a semi-waterproof bandage so you can shower like normal during this time. It's alright if the SecondSkin gets wet but you cannot soak (no bathtubs, hot tubs, pools, etc.). Avoid hot showers and limit your time in them. Do not wash the SecondSkin when you are in the shower.
It is possible to over-moisturize a new tattoo, which can actually delay the healing process. Excess moisture in the skin can create the perfect environment for bacteria and germ growth, potentially causing side effects like inflammation, breakouts, infection, and tattoo blurring or fading.
Saniderm tattoo wrap creates a barrier around your freshly tattooed skin, protecting it from dust, bacteria, moisture, and other external irritants. This transparent tattoo aftercare bandage is completely waterproof yet breathable to ensure that the skin receives the airflow it needs to heal and remain sweat-free.
If there are bubbles, work them out of the Saniderm. While wearing SANIDERM you CAN go swimming, hot tub, and bathe like normal. You may notice the corners peel up a bit.
Healing With Saniderm
Alternatively, if the fluid that collected beneath your Saniderm has dried out or has become itchy or uncomfortable, it is perfectly okay to remove the bandage and begin washing/caring for your tattoo -- even if this happens before the 3-5 day mark!
SANIDERM. Leave your Saniderm on for four full days after getting your tattoo. It is waterproof, so go ahead and shower as usual - however, please don't tempt fate with a bath or soaking. It is normal for your saniderm to fill with plasma, ink and blood.
SANIDERM AFTERCARE
Leave the Saniderm on for 3-5 days - do not leave it on for over 5. While the Saniderm is on: You do not need to do anything to the tattoo. You may notice excess ink pooling inside of the bandage - this is normal.
Saniderm / Second Skin Bandage:
During this time, it is normal to see some fluid build up beneath the bandage. (If the bandage begins to leak, you must remove the bandage and follow the standard aftercare instructions listed below). After 3-4 days, remove the Saniderm bandage gently under warm running water.
SANIDERM AFTERCARE:
You can shower with the bandage but avoid soaking it or submerging it in water (no swimming or baths). If water gets under the bandage, remove it immediately and continue with the normal aftercare routine.
Provided the wearer does not have an allergy to adhesives, second skin is arguably the greatest game-changer in the tattoo industry, making the healing process faster, safer and more efficient!
Sweat Buildup Inside SecondSkin
During a rigorous workout, you may notice sweat accumulating beneath the SecondSkin bandage. While SecondSkin is breathable, it's not designed to wick away a large amount of sweat, which can create an environment conducive to bacterial growth.

What's The Problem with Over-Moisturising Tattoos? Over-moisturising can lead to inflamed tattoos and potentially infection. Excess moisture can clog your skin's pores which prevents it from breathing, something that's important for your skin to heal. This can lead to breakouts on the skin that can damage the tattoo.
