Eyeliner and mascara Totally normal for the 1980s. Matte black liner was applied to the top and bottom of the eye, then smudged to create the desired rocker style. Standard black mascara on the upper and lower lashes was still the go-to throughout the decade, but bolder colors, like blue and purple, were also trendy.
Eyeliner was really popular during the 80s especially in the colour electric blue, so using a H&M electric blue eyeliner, I lined the whole of my bottom lash line. I then used my Avon Colour Trend gel eyeliner in blue waves across the top of my eye.
Fuschia, Rose, and wine colored lipsticks were popular, most were frosted. Any blue, purple, or pink eyeshadow will do. I wore a Covergirl quartet eyeshadow set that was more earth toned (frosted gray, rust, lavender, and pink pearl) with Teal eyeliner almost the entire decade. Many wore a Smokey eye for daywear.
Back in the day, it was Maybelline who had the boldest and brightest shades of mascara. My favorite in the 80's was a teal green color that made my green eyes pop. Recently, Maybelline has relaunched their colored mascaras for a limited time. So feel free to rock and relive the glory days of bold, bright makeup.
During the decade, neutrals took a decided backseat to rainbow brights and neons. Bold blues and other cool-toned shades (including violet, turquoise, and magenta) served as the backbone of some of the best '80s eye makeup looks.
Embrace the vibrant and nostalgic fashion 80s style trend at your next party. Incorporate iconic elements like shoulder pads, neon colours, leg warmers, acid wash jeans, leather jackets, oversized tops, mini skirts, statement accessories, high-top sneakers, an oversized blazer or sequins for an authentic look.

Best for: all colors, especially green, brown and hazel eyes.
Black, white, indigo, forest green, burgundy, and various tones of brown, tan, and orange were common colors during the 80s.
“Blue mascara comes back now and then but has never really made it back back since the 1980s,” says Swedish makeup artist and founder of LH cosmetics, Linda Hallberg.
Vibrant eyeliners, neon eyeshadows, and coloured mascaras were used to create dramatic, larger-than-life 80s eye makeup and lipstick colours like fuchsia, plum and bubblegum pink were lacquered onto the lips to create vivid 80s pouts.
JEWELRY STYLES
As the decade opened, the focus in jewelry was on gold and diamonds. Thin gold chains were worn in multiples as bracelets and, in various lengths, as necklaces, often with gold charms and small gem-set pendants.
Take a look back at a few of the many styles of women's shoes from the '80s, including spike heels, wedges, flats, pumps, penny loafers, moccasins and boat shoes, just to name a few!
Adding a splash of color to the eyeliner look, on the other hand, is less than 100 years old! Started in the 1930s to create a softer look, this colored eyeliner trend exploded a few decades later somewhere between the eras of hippies and hair bands.
If you are wondering what eyeliner colour an older woman should wear, brown or black is the answer. These classic colours provide a timeless look and lend a touch of youthfulness to your eyes.
Neon colors like neon pink, electric blue, and acid yellow made a profound impact on 80s culture and style.
1980: Light Teal
Out with the heavy earth tones of the 1970s, and in with the frothy pastel palette of the 1980s.
Spiked hair, teased hair, brightly colored hair, and shaved hair sections were popularized in the 1980s by the punk movement, as were the Mohawk and its twisted variant, Liberty spikes.
Both Brissette and Spieler recommend using brown mascara, rather than black mascara, on mature eyes. “When I do mature women for special occasions, I always use brown or black/brown mascara,” Spieler says.
Or, make your eyes appear larger by applying black mascara on the top lashes and brown mascara on the bottom ones to mimic a '60s doll-like aesthetic. You could also try reaching for a black-brown mascara.
A classic 80s look, the off-shoulder top and dress were must-haves in the decade. Women's tops usually had a one-shoulder cut, while dresses were often designed with two straps that draped off the shoulders. In the '80s, women often wore off-shoulder tops with statement jewelry, making for a glamorous look.
Vibrant eyeliners, neon eyeshadows, and coloured mascaras were used to create dramatic, larger-than-life 80s eye makeup and lipstick colours like fuchsia, plum and bubblegum pink were lacquered onto the lips to create vivid 80s pouts. Everything looked lifted and dynamic in the 80s, especially when it came to blush.
Velour, velvet, and polyester were popular fabrics used in clothes, especially button-up and v shirts. Looser pants remained popular during this time, being fairly wide but straight, and tighter shirts were especially popular, sometimes in a cropped athletic style.
