Filler fatigue occurs when you repeatedly get too much dermal filler. This can cause skin laxity once the filler dissolves, leading to a droopy facial appearance, explains Dr. Linne Linder, a board-certified physician and aesthetic practitioner at SkinSpirit.
“This is a result of patients having multiple millilitres of dermal filler injected and the area treated becoming augmented in a negative way. This may appear as puffiness, asymmetry, fullness to the area or even heaviness that was not previously there.”
In rare cases, patients develop flu-like symptoms after their injections, and it is possible to feel fatigued. This is simply your body adapting to Botox. It is more common with patients who are new to Botox and after repeated treatments, it's not likely you'll encounter this particular side effect again.
In reality, fillers take up to four weeks to “settle,” according to Healthline. Different types of fillers can settle more quickly, and your lifestyle and similar factors can also affect the amount of time it takes to settle.
It is rare to get any serious side effects following treatment, however possible side-effects include the following: bruising/swelling/redness at injection site. infection. nausea, headache or flu-like symptoms.
The filler can take several weeks to soften and settle into your skin. This means that patients won't see the ultimate results of their treatment immediately. Although individual results will vary, many people achieve the full effect within two weeks after receiving their injections.
In most cases, filler fatigue typically occurs when the amount of product continues to increase to achieve or maintain desired results. This usually occurs in the late 40s or early 50s when the facial aging process exceeds what can be treated with filler.
But the first approach with filler fatigue should always be to ease off of filler, not ramp it up. “Give your face a rest or even consider utilizing hyaluronidase to dissolve some existing hyaluronic acid filler,” Dr. Schwarcz suggests.
If Botox spreads away from the injection site to other parts of the body, this is called botulism. Botulism can occur hours, days, or even weeks after a Botox injection. Symptoms may include: fatigue (lack of energy)
These include redness, bruising and tenderness at the injection sites. Discomfort or tenderness lasts only a few days and can generally be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen. Hypersensitivity and numbness are also common for the first few days after treatment.
Make sure to sleep on your back with your head elevated using 2 pillows for 3 nights-this will ensure that the newly injected filler stays in place. Another option would be to use a wrap around neck pillow to stabilize your head.
The Results Improve Over Time
Because these injections stimulate your body's production of collagen and elastin, the final results of treatment won't be seen for several weeks. Even as the hyaluronic acid is processed by your body, healthy collagen and elastin grow at a more significant rate.
These blood vessels can heal and recovery quickly, but if you exercise and get your heart rate up, they could become more visible and result in delayed bruising after your treatment. Therefore, it is best to keep your blood pressure down as best you can, and let your facial rejuvenation products go to work.
If you think your fillers have gone wrong and if you have any of the following symptoms, CONSULT A MEDICALLY QUALIFIED PERSON NOW: Severe pain. Blanching of the skin and/or white spots. Mottled skin.
What is pillow face? Pillow face is a condition that occurs as a result of a person getting over-injected with dermal fillers in their face. This leads to an overstuffed look, which causes the checks and other areas of the face to puff out.
One thing to be aware of is that lip fillers can sometimes get bigger after a few days. This is usually because the filler has not yet settled into the skin. It is important to go back and have your technician adjust the fillers if they seem too big. Otherwise, they may start to sag over time.
Swelling will reach its peak at around 24-72 hours after treatment, at which point, it will begin to gradually subside. Occasionally, swelling can last for 1-4 weeks, but this isn't as common. Most people do see an improvement within 3 days.
Try to sleep on your back for 24-48 hours after filler injections. After that, you can safely sleep on your side without worrying that the filler will move with gravity.
IMMEDIATE after care – What to do at home
Apply a cool compress to the treatment area (do not apply ice directly to the skin) for 10 minutes every half an hour on the day of treatment. Avoid any heat inducing activities for 24 hours such as strenuous exercise, spas, saunas and hot showers.
You are not allowed to smile for a few days after a lip filler. Facial expressions such as smiling, laughing, or frowning should have zero impact on your lip filler. It is actually better for you to smile and gently massage your lips, to help spread the product and produce a more natural end-result.
Flu-like symptoms would be very unusual and highly unlikely to be due to the Juvederm filler unless you developed a localized infection where the Juvederm was injected which is quite rare if hygiene precautions are properly taken.
