Between day five and ten post-tattooing, you should expect your eyebrows to start scabbing and flaking. This is all perfectly normal and indicates the brows are beginning to heal. It is important not to pick, scratch or rub at your eyebrows during this time.
To speed up the healing process, follow a proper aftercare routine, including gentle cleansing, applying recommended ointments, avoiding direct water and sun exposure, and not picking at scabs or scratching the area.
Over the next 7-14 days your scabs should flake off bit by bit. Some people scab in light flakes and some develop a thick scab. Everybody is different, but whatever you do, do NOT pick at the scabs and make sure you read through and follow the AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS properly to obtain the best results.
Moisture helps new skin cells form and repair the wound. This may also apply to scabs. Keeping a scab moist with petroleum jelly and protected with a bandage may help the wound heal faster than if you leave the scab dry. Whether the scab is dry or moist, it's important to make sure it doesn't peel off prematurely.
EYEBROW AFTERCARE
Do not let any water, lotion, soap, or makeup touch your eyebrow area during the first 7 days after your procedure. Please wash your face carefully around the eyebrow without getting water on the treated area. During the shower, keep your face away from the shower head or take a bath.
After getting an eyebrow tattoo, it's essential to follow proper aftercare to ensure the best healing and long-lasting results. For the first 10 days, avoid getting your brows wet and use gentle face-washing techniques around the area.
In the morning, remove saran wrap, wash eyebrows, apply ointment again for the remainder of the 24 hours. Doing this will prevent scabbing. Step 3: After the first 24 hours you can wash the treated area only twice a day and apply a very thin layer of ointment after each wash.
Professional procedures such as microdermabrasion and facials with cleansers can help exfoliate the upper layers of the skin and help the body naturally get rid of the pigment. You may need several sessions of microdermabrasion but you should notice a definite “lightening” after each and every session.
Daily Care for the First 7 Days:
Clean your brows with damp cotton pads before reapplying the healing balm. Apply a thick layer of Vaseline to your brows when showering or washing your hair to protect them from getting wet. Remove it carefully with damp cotton pads afterward.
Scabs and flaking skin can cause the area to look dry and dull. Applying moisturizer and protecting the tattoo from the sun will help with these issues. The skin should completely heal by the end of week three . The inner layers of skin can take longer to heal.
The ghosting period for ombré eyebrows is a natural phase during the healing process where the pigment temporarily fades, usually occurring 7-10 days after the procedure. This is due to skin regeneration and is completely normal. After about six weeks, the pigment resurfaces, revealing the final soft, gradient look.
It is normal that during the healing process it seems that the pigment has disappeared when the scab falls off, but do not worry! This is part of the healing process. If the microshading treatment has been carried out correctly, the pigment will reappear after a few days.
Moisturize the scab
The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) recommends keeping the wound moist to help damaged skin heal. They suggest using petroleum jelly to prevent the skin from drying out, as well as to encourage healing and reduce scar formation.
Wounds/scars heal best when they are kept well moisturized with Vaseline or Aquaphor. Any crusting/scabbing that occurs should be gently removed by soaking the area with warm water, increasing vaseline treatment until scab falls off on its own. DO NOT EVER PICK OFF A SCAB.
Yellowish crusting can form on a scab when pus builds up. Pus is usually a sign of infection, and it can indicate either a bacterial infection, such as impetigo, or a viral infection, such as herpes. Sometimes, the scab can crack, and a small amount of clear yellow or pink fluid can ooze out.
Tips for faster eyebrow tattoo healing. Use the aftercare products recommended by your artist to keep the skin hydrated and prevent infections. Clean the eyebrow area twice a day with a gentle cleanser and water to prevent infections and remove any excess ink or scabs.
Avoid touching the area with your fingers to prevent infection. The same applies to children's hands and pets. Change your pillowcase for a bacteria-free environment and try sleeping on your back for the first night. On day 2 give the brows a gentle wash with mild cleaners and pat them dry immediately.
Keep the area dry using a shower shield, such as a waterproof bandage, or gently cover your brows with a clean cloth or plastic wrap. Avoid direct water exposure and refrain from using strong soaps or cleansers near the tattooed area.
Use a warm compress
Using a warm, damp compress can help stimulate blood flow to the scab and surrounding area. The increased blood flow around the site can help the body speed its healing process and recovery. A warm compress can also help keep the scab moist.
After the Microblading Procedure:
To help minimize scabbing, use a clean cotton-ball to lightly dab the microbladed area with distilled water a few times per hour for the remainder of the day.
