You really don't need to take any steps to prepare your body for Botox injections. In fact, practitioners typically recommend that you avoid taking any painkillers before your appointment. Common medications, such as aspirin and ibuprofen, will actually increase your chances of bruising.
For the first four to five hours after receiving injections, refrain from touching or rubbing your face. You should also keep upright and avoid lying on your face. Stay out of direct sunlight as much as possible following your appointment. Botox is usually not painful enough to require medication afterwards.
You should NEVER leave a tip for your PA/NP or nurse injector. Injectables are medications, just like a blood pressure pill or a thyroid medication. You would not tip your primary care provider for doing an EKG on you so no need to tip on our medical services either.
Avoid Alcohol and Caffeine
It's also important to avoid too much caffeine both before and after your scheduled appointment. This is to ensure you get the best possible results. Caffeine and alcohol both dilate blood vessels and this can cause the injectable to diffuse and become less effective.
No there are no specific foods that you should avoid prior to Botox injections. To limit the risk/amount of any bruising with injections though you should not take aspirin, drink alcohol or other be taking other blood thinners prior to Botox/filler injections. Best of luck.
The first thing you'll notice immediately after Botox injections are little bumps and dots of blood that look just like mosquito bites. These go away in 20 minutes to half an hour. But you won't notice the skin-smoothing effects between three to five days (and up to two weeks).
Avoid any additional facial treatments, such as massages, chemical peels or microdermabrasion, within 24 hours of your appointment. You may also wish to avoid using makeup and other topical creams like Retin A for at least 24 hours after botox injections.
Avoid alcohol, caffeine, Niacin supplement, high-sodium foods, high sugar foods, refined carbohydrates, spicy foods, and cigarettes 24-48 hours before and after your treatment. (All of these factors may increase risk of bruising and swelling).
Staying hydrated will ensure your skin will be in tip-top shape for your Botox injections. At least a week before your scheduled treatment date, make sure you drink plenty of water every day.
For this reason, many practitioners and injectors recommend that you avoid drinking alcohol directly before and after your Botox treatment, as bruising might occur at the injection sites where your Botox injections were administered.
For 24-48 hours, avoid caffeine, high-sodium foods, refined carbohydrates, alcohol, cigarettes, high-sugar foods, Niacin supplements and spicy foods because they contribute to increased swelling and irritation.
If you need to lie down, it's best to lie on your back and to avoid lying on your side or stomach. Laying on your side of the stomach will increase the odds of the Botox moving to another area of your face.
"If you do too much Botox on your forehead for many, many years, the muscles will get weaker and flatter," cautions Wexler, adding that the skin can also appear thinner and looser. Moreover, as your muscles become weaker, they can start to recruit surrounding muscles when you make facial expressions.
The results from Botox last anywhere between 2-6 months; the average result lasts about 3-4 months. Why does Botox eventually stop working? Your body makes new neurotransmitters all the time, so the “blocking” effect of Botox gradually wears off as these chemicals start circulating in your body again.
You can expect results to last around 4 months, but don't be surprised if you notice a long term decrease in wrinkles. The relaxation of those muscles allows them to weaken and resist movement even between treatments. If you're looking to lift the brow area, Botox can help without going under the knife.
Ideally, avoid touching your face for 24 hours after your treatment. Use tepid water and a gentle cleanser to wash your face for 72 hours after treatment and gently pat dry. Your skin may feel drier than usual after Botox.
After Botox, you'll still be able to smile and laugh as usual, but your skin will look smoother and more youthful while doing so.
Because the effects of botox are not immediate, you need to allow time for the toxin to work on canceling the signals from the nerves to the muscles of the face. In the meantime, do not touch or rub your face. You'll want to wait anywhere from one to three days before touching your face or applying makeup again.
