Many medical spas are high end, one shop-beauty-spots that offer a variety of cosmetic services. If you patron your local medical spa for a service that is traditionally performed at a day spa or salon, tipping the standard 10-20% may be appropriate.
Tips are never expected, but they are certainly appreciated when you feel that your aesthetician has provided outstanding service during your spa visit. Examples of spa services you may leave a gratuity for include procedures like facials, brows, lashes, microblading, microdermabrasion, or chemical peels.
A good rule of thumb to go by is tipping your aesthetician 18 to 20 percent. "It also depends on how much you enjoyed your treatment," said Saime Demirovic, a cofounder of Glo Spa NY. "The amount someone leaves as a tip can really send a message of how they felt about their facial."
How Much Should You Tip Your Esthetician for a Facial at a Spa? According to Saime Demirovic, co-founder of GLO Spa NY, 18-20% is customary when seeing an esthetician for a facial. “The industry standard is pretty much the same as tipping at a restaurant,” she says.
Remember that your esthetician is providing you with a service, so you should always tip. What to tip for a facial is much like tipping a server at a restaurant. A 20% tip is good, but base it off the esthetician's performance.
Remember the golden rule: "You should tip 20 percent on the entire service cost, not per individual," says Schweitzer. So if your haircut and blow-dry cost $40 total, and your color was $60, your total service cost comes to $100. That means you should tip $20 divided between the colorist and stylist.
If you are patronizing your medical spa for a medical treatment, such as Botox, Fat reduction, or hair restoration, especially if these services are performed by a medical professional such as a doctor or nurse, tips may not be expected or accepted.

The usual gratuity for your stylist or colorist (yes, even if they are the owner) should be 15 to 20 percent of the service fee. And while assistants are sometimes tipped out by their stylists, it's still a nice gesture to pass a little something their way.

How much should you tip for a wax? While most people tip between 10 to 20 percent for a wax, staff would really like you to tip anywhere from 15 to 25 percent for a job well done, Grochowska said. For a quick brow wax (that may be priced at $10 or less), a couple of dollars for tip is fair and appropriate.
“Rule of thumb: If your injector own the practice, no tipping necessary. If they are an employee it is customary to tip. That being said, no one expects 20% tip of their service. ... $20 goes a long way in making your provider feel appreciated, in my experience.”
Tipping is not required nor expected as our practitioners are members of the medical community; quite different than spas, healthclubs, etc. So don't feel obligated, however, some clients wish to extend their gratitude in an monetary way and are welcomed to do so.

Well, luckily, when it comes to eyelash extensions, things are pretty standard — you should generally tip around 20-25 percent. 25 percent may seem a bit higher than a normal salon service (like say, a haircut), but when you think of the minute attention to detail eyelash extensions require, it figures out nicely.
Tipping for eyelash extensions is always appreciated, but not required. Leaving a tip is a choice. It allows the client to show a level of appreciation for the service received. There are plenty of reasons why you may choose to tip your lash stylist or not.
If you want to leave a 20% tip, multiply the cost by 0.20 to get the tip amount or multiply the cost by 1.20 to get the total including tip. If you want to leave a 18% tip, multiply the cost by 0.18 to get the tip amount or multiply the cost by 1.18 to get the total including tip.
The bottom line: If you like your hairstylist, tip at least 20%. It helps build relations with the salon and is especially helpful in procuring a last-minute appointment.
Why is this? The owner of the salon is doing the exact same service for you as someone renting a booth from them. There is absolutely no logic to not tipping the owner. My family members and I all work in the service industry, from restaurants to hospitality to salons.

Going with 20% is nice for the stylist and you because that math is pretty simple. Nerdy tip: To find 20%, start by finding 10%, then double that amount. So, if your haircut costs $60.00, find 10% by moving the decimal one digit to the left. Ten percent of $60 is $6.
Makeup Artists / Hair Stylists
