Typically, after six to eight weeks, patients can start sitting without cushions for short periods, gradually increasing as comfort and healing permit. It's important to listen to your body and the advice of your BBL surgeon during this phase to avoid any setbacks.
After six weeks, you may be able to sit without pillow support, but again, it's best to follow the instructions provided by your surgeon, as every surgeon has their own postoperative instructions, and individual recovery may vary.
If you must sit after your BBL and don't have your BBL pillow with you, make sure you sit on a soft surface for no more than about 10 minutes at a time. You can sit for a longer period if you use your BBL pillow, but this can admittedly get uncomfortable after a time so you may need to take frequent breaks.
For three weeks following a BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift) surgery, you should avoid sitting down and putting direct pressure on your buttock. Your surgeon may advise you to sit on soft pillows for two more weeks to reduce the weight on your butt. Most BBL patients can sit as usual four weeks after plastic surgery.
They'll answer common questions you might have, like when can you start sleeping on your side again, or if it's okay to sleep on your back a month after the procedure. Generally speaking, you'll be able to return to sleeping on your back and side after a period of six weeks post-surgery.
After a few weeks, the fat that survives develops its blood supply and integrates naturally into the fat there. Transferred fat should live indefinitely in the buttocks, and Brazilian butt lift results are usually permanent.
Signs of fluffing after BBL
The skin of your buttocks will start to become softer, more elastic, and generally less tense. The shape of the buttocks becomes rounder and should start to feel and look more natural as the skin stretches to accommodate the newly introduced fat.
For the first six weeks following your BBL surgery, it's essential to wear your faja 24 hours a day, except when bathing or laundering the garment.
How Long Should You Be On Bed Rest After BBL? After a Brazilian butt lift surgery, you will need to have bed rest for approximately three weeks. You will be provided pain medication to help make the recovery process more comfortable, and it may help to have a caretaker during your first week of recovery.
DON'T Massage the buttock or any area where fat was transferred. This needs to heal without disruption. Massage is ideally performed under the direction of a massage therapist (preferably one trained in lymphatic massage). This can be started immediately and a typical protocol would be 2-3 x per week for 2 – 3 weeks.
The Role of the BBL Pillow
Immediately after the surgery, sitting directly on your buttocks can apply pressure on the transferred fat cells, potentially damaging them or affecting their ability to establish a blood supply.
For at least two months following your butt lift, you'll need to avoid wearing very tight pants, like fitted jeans or leggings.
As you enter the third and fourth weeks following your BBL, you'll generally find that you're feeling much better, and any initial pain and discomfort should mostly have gone away. While you may still notice some lingering swelling, it should be diminishing week by week.
Patients should avoid sitting or lying directly on the buttocks during the initial two weeks. They should also avoid strenuous activities, heavy lifting, and exercise for at least six weeks after the procedure. Swelling and bruising are common after a BBL and can take several weeks to subside.
This is when swelling reduces, and your booty softens, leading to a more natural, rounded appearance. When does this take place? Everyone heals differently, but most patients enter the BBL fluffing period around six to eight weeks after surgery.
You will need to use a BBL pillow for driving to prevent pressure between your bottom and the car seat. A BBL pillow is a firm, comfortable, contoured cushion that allows some distance between your butt and the chair. This helps to prevent excess weight on the area.
After liposuction, a lymphatic drainage massage can significantly improve the recovery experience. Without this postoperative care, the lymphatic system has to work overtime, leading to prolonged swelling, discomfort, and, sometimes, unsatisfying results.
Sweat and Bacteria
Following surgery, you may be less active and spend more time sitting or lying down. This often leads to increased sweating in the treated area, which, combined with bacteria, can produce an unpleasant odor. Keeping the area clean and dry minimizes bacterial growth and associated smells.
You will be able to sleep on your back and your side after six weeks. Until then, you will need to sleep on your stomach to avoid putting pressure on the fat grafted areas. We cannot emphasize enough how important it is to adhere to these post-op aftercare and sleeping instructions.
Extreme constriction can restrict blood flow to the area, potentially damaging the transferred fat cells, adds Dr. Horn. The garment should fit snugly but not be uncomfortably tight. When in doubt, check with your doctor to ensure it's fitting correctly.
For most of our lipo 360 patients, we recommend a mid thigh garment. This is because many of the waist cinchers or corsets have the edge right where your incisions may be, which can cause additional discomfort.
Wear stage 1 faja x 1 month with foam/boards then switch to stage 2 (one that goes up the back and over the shoulders for even compression). Stage 2 is more compressive, can still use foam or board as needed. As tight as is comfortable is the goal.
Strict adherence to the aftercare instructions provided by your surgeon is paramount. Maintaining a balanced diet rich in essential nutrients, wearing your compression garment as advised, and avoiding undue pressure on your buttocks during the recovery phase are vital components for optimal healing and shaping.
A Brazilian butt lift adds volume to and improves the shape of your butt, but it won't improve sagging or excess skin. If you have sagging or excess skin, talk to your healthcare provider about a butt lift. Doctors called plastic surgeons perform Brazilian butt lifts.
