A common consequence of too much lip filler is that the filler can migrate or 'bleed' into other areas of your face. This can result in small lumps or raised areas around the initial treated area. Overfilling your lips can also cause excessive bruising, discolouration or discomfort.
Lumps and bumps are a sign that you've gone too far! Some mild swelling and bruising are common after filler injections. You may even notice some slight unevenness. A good injector can help to minimize these side effects.
Your lips look like they have been stung by a bee.
You may have too much dermal filler injection if your lower lip can no longer touch your upper lip. As a result, your lips may appear too big and not proportional.
Overfilling results when too much filler is placed and the area look unnatural or artificial. To avoid this, it is helpful to evaluate each area in a mirror as it is filled. If it is estimated that 1.0cc of filler would be needed, check the area after 0.5cc is placed before adding additional filler to that area.
Despite the lips being injected with filler, they actually should not swell dramatically straight after the procedure. The lips should appear as they will do once the post-treatment swelling (which can arrive later) has diminished – so you should see your lips exactly as the finished product.
Fortunately, dermal fillers work very quickly, and you won't have to wait twelve months to see the full benefits of your injections. That said, these injectable treatments take some time to integrate into your tissues, and it's normal for your dermal filler to take up to two weeks to fully settle into your face.
There is little to no downtime after receiving lip fillers. The swelling around the injection sites will go away, and you will begin to see great results after a few days, with the maximum results after 14 days. Lip fillers are a long-lasting treatment.
Most commonly, just 1 syringe is used for augmenting the lips, regardless of the type of filler you use. Occasionally, we will build up to 2 or even 3 syringes in the lips for a patient, but this is usually an older patient who has lost some of the definition and structure in the lips, as well as volume.
DON'T: massage your lips.
Massaging freshly injected lips risks moving the filler around causing the possibility of desportation and undesirable results.

It is safe to have 2ml filled at one time.
Massage can encourage the filler to be broken up by the body more quickly. But in practice this still takes a long time (like weeks of daily vigorous massage) to improve the outcome. This may also spread the product over a larger area causing more problems.
Immediately after treatment: your lips will be swollen and may be bruised. Dr. Buddiga will gently massage your lips so they absorb the filler and will apply a cold compress to your face after the treatment. You can then go home.
Dermal Fillers commonly cause swelling and sometimes even bruising. The injection process disturbs the skin and soft tissue, causing minor trauma to the area, and swelling is a natural bodily response whilst the area heals.
The swelling that can often occur after Lip Fillers can cause the lips to look a little uneven for a short time. This doesn't necessarily mean that anything has gone wrong and it may just take a little time for the product to fully settle and for residual swelling to subside.
Generally speaking, your lips should be "pink, soft, and smooth," according to Chase. If you have healthy lips and want to maintain them, heed Kominiarek's advice: "Make sure to drink plenty of water, use lip moisturizers and balms, and visit the doctor if you have any non-healing lesions."
The most common cause of lumps after a filler treatment is swelling and bruising from the injections themselves. These should naturally subside within the first week.
Not to worry though, lumps following a filler treatment are completely normal. The lumps you may experience are often caused by swelling and bruising of the treated area. We would not recommend massaging or using force to reduce the lumps yourself, as this may impact your final results.
Fillers come in pre-filled syringes, usually with 1 mL per syringe. To avoid duck lips, stick to one syringe per treatment. Honestly, some times we won't even use the whole syringe to avoid the risk of duck lips.
The Results Improve Over Time
Because these injections stimulate your body's production of collagen and elastin, the final results of treatment won't be seen for several weeks. Even as the hyaluronic acid is processed by your body, healthy collagen and elastin grow at a more significant rate.
Depending on the injection site and amount of dermal filler, most HA fillers last from 6 – 12 months on average. Regardless of which dermal filler you use, two or three syringes are almost always recommended in order to achieve the most gorgeous outcomes.
Avoid overfilling
Even though dermal injections usually come in 1mL syringes, you should avoid using the entire syringe in one appointment.
The third day after your lip filler appointment is when you'll start to get an idea of what your lips will look like. You should start to feel more comfortable as the swelling should be gone, and it should feel much more normal and comfortable eating and talking.
You should NEVER leave a tip for your PA/NP or nurse injector. Injectables are medications, just like a blood pressure pill or a thyroid medication.
Answer: Lip fillers do not permanently change size of lips
Unfortunately having fillers over and over will not give you bigger lips forever. Different fillers, and even the same filler in same person at different times, do dissolve at different rates. However, when they are gone you are back to square one.
