Injecting too much Botox results in a lopsided, asymmetrical look, unnaturally augmented features, or a “frozen” look.
Call your health care provider right away if you have any of these symptoms hours or weeks after your procedure: Muscle weakness. Vision problems. Trouble talking or swallowing.
In large amounts, these chemicals can cause botulism, an illness that may produce nausea, vomiting, and in severe cases, fatal paralysis of vital muscles. Using small amounts, however, doctors can safely use the toxin to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
The key danger zones of botox include the areas around the eyes and mouth, specifically involving the orbicularis oculi muscle, the facial artery, and the temporal artery. Think of these zones like a “no-go zone” on a map—trespassing can lead to hazardous results.
Usually, an average Botox treatment is in the range of 40-50 units, meaning the average cost for a Botox treatment is between $400 and $600. Forehead injections (20 units) and eyebrow lines (up to 40 units), for example, would be approximately $600 for the full treatment.
Facial Drooping: Another common sign of overdosing on Botox is facial drooping. This happens when the medication is injected into the wrong area and causes the facial muscles to become weak and unable to move.
But even the most routine procedures sometimes don't go according to plan. If your face is asymmetrical, your eyebrows arch unnaturally, your eyelids droop, or you can't move your forehead, you know your Botox has been botched.
What is the “spock brow”? After treatment with botulinum toxin (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, etc.) the tail of the eyebrow appears to be over-elevated with a “pulled” appearance. The heightened arch can appear sinister or “spock-like”.
Injecting too much Botox results in a lopsided, asymmetrical look, unnaturally augmented features, or a “frozen” look. These issues most commonly occur due to the inexperience and lack of training of the person administering the injection.
Serious adverse effects after cosmetic use of botulinum toxin include dysphagia, muscle weakness, and allergic reactions [22, 23].
Frozen Expression: Botox's ability to freeze muscles is also its most significant drawback when used incorrectly. Too much Botox, particularly around the eyes, forehead, or mouth, can leave the face with an emotionless, plastic look.
Up till now, there is no known antidote for Botox! Which means that there is no fast way to dissolve Botox of reverse its symptoms. Time is the only thing that is going to help Botox go away.
Common indicators that Botox may have gone bad include drooping eyelids, uneven results, excessive bruising, or prolonged swelling beyond the expected recovery period. Difficulty swallowing or breathing could also signal that the toxin has spread to unintended areas.
Headache and migraine were the most frequently reported adverse event and were recorded in 269 (6.3%) injection sessions, followed by local skin reactions such as bruising or hematoma at the injection site, reported in 163 (3.8%) patients, and facial neuromuscular symptoms in 141 (3.3%) injections.
From a medical perspective, Botox does not make you look older after it wears off. As mentioned above, however, because people are so used to having smoother and younger-looking skin after using Botox, once it wears off, it can be a bit of a shocker. The wrinkles you had before Botox injections will reappear.
However, if the problem is that too much Botox was used in the first place and you are left with a "frozen" or unnatural appearance as a result, you will, unfortunately, need to wait until the product wears away on its own. It can take 3 to 6 months for Botox results to fade away completely.
The cost for 20-40 units of Botox ranges between $325-$600. To get an exact amount for how much your Botox treatment will cost it is always best to speak with one of our local dermatologists as they will assess your needs and determine the exact area to be injected.
Botox Dosing per Treatment Area
Twenty units in this area is an adequate dose for many people, however, if the muscle is very long and strong a 20-unit dose isn't going to be enough to provide optimal results.
