Microneedling reduces stretch marks by improving the collagen content of your skin. A session might take about 45 minutes and you might need two or three sessions to see results. After that, you might need a session every four to 18 months, depending on your circumstances.
Since stretch marks cause a disruption in the natural production of collagen, microneedling will help not only restart that production, but the overproduction of elastin and collagen will help in healing the damaged connective tissue in the dermis that creates the stretch mark.
Typically, a patient would have to use a derma roller three to four times a week to see visible results, especially in the abdominal region or the thighs. While the process of derma rolling does encourage rapid growth of collagen and elastin, it's consistency that ultimately creates long-lasting results.
Microneedling has been clinically shown to fade the appearance of scarring including stretch marks. Derma rollers gently open collagen fibers at the surface as they glide over the skin by breaking up the tough, stringy fibers that make up scar tissue.
How Long Will My Results Last? Your results will last anywhere from three to five months, and many patients schedule follow-up treatments twice a year to maintain their results.
Whilst pulling the skin taut with your free hand, roll forwards and backwards over the area to be treated. Roll 8-10 times in each direction: vertically, horizontally and diagonally (forwards and back equals two rolls). Apply a bit of pressure to allow the needles to penetrate the skin to their full length.
Most clients see full results at between four and six weeks following treatment. This gives your body enough time to produce collagen and elastin and to send it to your micro wounds.
More collagen and elastin in the area help heal the damaged connective tissue that caused it. This is an effective way of managing stretch marks because, unlike the expensive creams on the market, microneedling can penetrate deeply into the skin.
According to the brand, in a consumer study, participants used the GloPro derma-roller three times per week and 97 percent reported improvement in skin's firmness, 93 percent saw improvement in the evenness of their skin tone, and 100 percent felt it helped stimulate their skin's natural collagen after just 30 days.
If your stretch marks are relatively new, over-the-counter creams might be somewhat effective in helping fade them. But, if you've had your stretch marks for a long time, they might be a little more difficult to remove. Bottom line: stretch mark cream is not the miracle product that some people think it is.
Skin that is well-cared for and in good condition will gain the best results. We recommend you have a good skincare routine established at least 2 weeks before commencing a course of micro-needling. Cleansing, toning and moisturizing morning and night with a good sunscreen used daily would be the absolute minimum.
How Often Should You do Microneedling Treatments? As a general rule of thumb, microneedling treatment can be safely done about once a month or every 4 to 6 weeks.
The frequency of your treatments will depend on the length of your derma roller's needles and your skin's sensitivity. If your needles are shorter, you may be able to roll every other day, and if the needles are much longer, you may need to space out treatments every three to four weeks.
Fine Lines and Loose Skin
This happens because our bodies produce less collagen over time, taking away our skin's structure. This is most noticeable in sagging skin, but it's the reason behind wrinkles and uneven skin texture too.
Micro-needling can be safely repeated every 2-4 weeks until you achieve the desired results. For collagen induction, we recommend starting with 3 treatments, but with a minimum separation time of 2 weeks between treatments. For scar reduction, an average of 6 treatments are recommended.
2. Microneedling scars as early as 6 weeks following wound closure is safe.
Some at-home microneedling devices can actually worsen acne scars because they creates too much skin damage. If you are considering microneedling, I always recommend speaking to a board-certified dermatologist in order of avoid harming your skin any further.
In short, yes, microneedling can make you look younger. As we age, our skin tends to become less tight and firm. When you get older, your body starts to break down collagen faster than it can produce it.
Hyaluronic acid can be used following microneedling, and it's even recommended in some cases to help stimulate collagen production after your procedure. If your skin feels dry, it's generally safe to apply coconut oil as an emollient to lock in moisture and hydrate your face after microneedling.
A simple way to treat white stretch marks is through regular exfoliation. This removes excess dead skin from your body and new skin from your stretch marks. Exfoliating alongside other treatment methods can also enhance your results.
Your skin then has a mild inflammatory response as your tissues try to adapt to the stretching effects. This explains why fresh stretch marks are red. The redness doesn't last forever. As stretch marks heal, they'll eventually turn white and start to become less noticeable as they fade over time.
Like any scar, stretch marks are permanent, but treatment may make them less noticeable. Treatment can also help alleviate the itch. If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, check with your doctor before treating stretch marks. Some products contain ingredients, such as retinol, that can harm your baby.
