Check Your Scalp: Look at your scalp in well-lit conditions. If you notice widening parts or thinning areas, it might indicate excessive hair loss. Additionally, if you see a lot of hair follicles on your scalp without new hair growth, it could be a sign of a problem.
With this test, you grasp about 60 hairs between your fingers and pull a little bit while running your fingers through your hair. Of the 60 hairs, it is normal to see between 5-8 hairs fall out with this tension. Any more than that, say between 15-20, could be a sign that you are experiencing some hair loss.
Nutritional deficiencies
Extreme diets that are too low in protein or certain vitamins, such as iron, can sometimes cause excessive hair shedding. A person should contact a doctor for a blood test to check whether they have a nutritional deficiency that could be causing their hair to fall out.
The most famous and commonly heard B-vitamin is Biotin. The use of biotin for hair loss is very popular as it is found in almost all hair growth supplements and is a well-known anti-hair fall agent. We should consume Biotin in our everyday diet because it is a water-soluble vitamin.
When deficiency disrupts vitamin D in your scalp, the anagen (growth) phase shortens. This prematurely pushes more resting follicles into the telogen (rest) phase. Excessive shedding occurs, resulting in thinner hair. Research clearly demonstrates this link.
Some women experience thinning over the lateral scalp. Common conditions that mimic androgenetic alopecia include thyroid disease, iron deficiency anemia, and malnutrition.
Severe and prolonged hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism can cause loss of hair. The loss is diffuse and involves the entire scalp rather than discrete areas. The hair appears uniformly sparse.

Pull Test and Tug Test
This simple test measures the severity of hair loss. During a pull test, a dermatologist grasps small sections of hair, about 40 strands, from different parts of the scalp and gently tugs. If six or more strands fall out, you have what's known as active hair loss.
Vitamin B12 Test– Check for vitamin B12 deficiency, which can cause brittle hair and hair loss. People who follow strict vegetarian or vegan diets or have digestive issues and those over 60 years old must take the Vitamin B12 test.
Only riboflavin, biotin, folate, and vitamin B12 deficiencies have been associated with hair loss. Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) is a component of two important coenzymes: flavin mononucleotide (FMN) and flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) [22].

In both reported cases, treatment with 50,000 IU vitamin D3 for 6 weeks and 3 months, respectively, followed by 1,000 IU/daily as a maintenance dose, resulted in noticeable hair regrowth and resolved the deficiency state.
