"Contour eyes with a medium to medium deep shadow to the crease and outer crease of eyes," suggests the pro. "Contouring gives eyes depth and definition, making them look bigger, bolder, and perfectly shaped. Use one color for the entire crease and then go darker with a shade on top to the outer corner."
Eyeshadow Above the Eyelid
Using eye shadow helps the eyes look larger because it draws attention to the area on and above the lid. One of the most important things we can do to make our eyes look bigger is to use a light eyeshadow color on our lids.
“Using a small eye brush, start from the outer corner of the eyes and work inwards, so that the color gets gradually lighter. It'll give you a bigger, wide-eyed look.”
Opt for a lighter eyeshadow rather than a dark, smoky shade on your eyelids and around the eyes, like Jenna Dewan Tatum. "Highlighting the corners makes eyes look brighter and fresh," says Ahnert. "Use a light color shadow in matte or shimmer to inner corner, lower lash line in outer corner, and the inner lid."
"Eyes may look smaller as we age because the lids get heavier and sag and [bags may appear]," says Laura. "Plus, the loss of color and fullness in the lashes reduces the contrast that makes eyes look alert."
Bigger Eyes Facial Exercise #1 – Eye Tapping
All you need to do is take your index fingers and gently tap around your eyes, following your eye sockets and the line of your brow in each direction. Continue this tapping for 45 seconds to a minute, being careful not to apply too much force.
If you want to improve the look of any body part, the best way to do so is to exercise it. Though not increasing the actual size of your eyes per se, making sure your eyes are as strong as possible is important and shouldn't be overlooked.
White to bright. “Use a white (or nude) kohl pencil eyeliner on your waterline for an instant eye lift. White eyeliner is a secret weapon to give the effect of wider, more awake and brighter eyes. Choose a water and smudge proof brand that will stay put all day.”
Neutral and pink colored eye shadows also make you look younger. Neutrals will also complement your everyday look without making you feel that you have over done your makeup, whether you are in the office or college.
Cucumbers are also an excellent remedy for drooping eyelids. Simply place chilled cucumber slices over your eyes and leave them on for 15 to 20 minutes. Throw the slices away (or add them to a compost pile) when you're done. Ice water can be surprisingly effective for some mild cases (depending on the root cause).
7. Use white eyeliner to make eyes look bigger. Grab a white eye pencil and “tight line the bottom with white to increase the eye's brightness.” If you feel like the hooded part of your eyes make them look small, this tip expands their size by playing tricks on other people's eyes.
A simple trick to make your eyes look bigger without makeup is to use an eyelash curler. The curled lashes will make your eyes look wider. Additionally, get enough sleep to rest your eyes and avoid puffiness. This will give your eyes a less squinty look.
Keep in mind that your eyes won't shrink due to glasses. Your eyewear might just make it look like they do. However, when you remove your glasses, you should find that your eyes look normal. (Talk to your eye doctor if you're concerned about the size of your eyes without glasses.)
As you grow older, the tissues and muscles by your eye area weaken, so they sag a bit, making you look a bit sleepy. As you mature, our skin's elasticity weakens. Fats and fluids in the eye area can accumulate in your lower eyelids, making them look plumper, and in turn, a lot puffier.
Despite what you may have heard, it's not the best idea to apply dark eyeliner to your bottom waterline because this can actually shrink the appearance of your eyes. Instead, apply your go-to eyeliner just below your lower lashes to help make your eyes look bigger.
DON'T line your whole eye.
Drawing your eyeliner from outside corner all of the way to the inside corner of your eye, on top and bottom, is just a whole lotta eyeliner. It's harsh and unflattering, and makes your eyes appear smaller. It also makes it look like you wear a studded black belt over your Billabong t-shirt.
Also, try to avoid applying makeup on the lower lash line as it makes the eyes look smaller, highlights fine lines and drags down the whole face. The eyeliner can get smudged from the bottom lash line, clearly showing signs of fatigue, and making you look older.
