Glazes differ from traditional hair color in that they do not have any peroxide or developer. They deposit temporary color without opening or penetrating the hair cuticle and making a permanent color change. Hair glaze lasts up to around a week, gradually fading out of the hair.

The heat of the kiln causes a chemical reaction in the glazes that alters their appearance. In glass they call this striking. If you have ever seen copper roofs turn green, the process is similar. The same glaze can also turn different colors when fired to different temperatures.

If the COE of the glaze is higher than the fired body the glaze will probably craze as it cools due to the stress between the two solid materials. A small COE differential may result in slight crazing (indicated by few, widely spaced crazing lines) and possibly only long after the kiln has cooled.

"Do not put a light pink over dark brown hair and expect to emerge with a pink tint. Glosses will not lighten your hair," says Heemskerk. They also can't cover gray hair (you need conventional dye to do that), but they can be used to make silver strands more vibrant.
How often should you use a hair gloss? Your hair gloss schedule depends on personal preference, but Javier says that every four to six weeks is a good rule of thumb. If you color your hair, Javier says that the more you gloss, the more longevity your hair color can have.

The color develops chemically as the glaze melts during firing. It comes from interaction between the gas, oxygen, and glaze ingredients. The colors in the glaze come from the metal oxides (such as iron oxide or copper oxide) we add to the glaze mixture. Each is varied by the other ingredients in the glaze.
You can do 5 or 6 or more layers when brushing. Just don't bring them all the way to the bottom of the piece. So go 1/4” higher up with each layer so it doesn't drip off the piece. Also, make some clay cookies to put under your piece just in case the glaze runs.
