The filler will be flexible and easy to reshape after it has been injected, but it should then remain in place. You'll be able to take a look at your lips once the fillers are in place, so any adjustments can be made while you're at the clinic.
Lip fillers can only modify the lips so far. Fillers cannot make your lips look exactly like someone else's or change the fundamental shape. But improvement, enhancement, and subtle re-shaping is possible.
DON'T: massage your lips.
Massaging freshly injected lips risks moving the filler around causing the possibility of desportation and undesirable results.
It is possible to add small amounts of strategically placed filler to reshape and contour the injected area and salvage a beautiful result. This takes advantage of the previously placed volume of filler and does not require starting over or completely replacing all of the product.
The Surgical Solution For Correcting Uneven Lips
There are both surgical and nonsurgical procedures to treat uneven lips. A surgical procedure offers the most significant results. For lips, this procedure is known as a lip lift. A lip lift involves making an incision and reshaping the lips to alter their look.
The swelling that can often occur after Lip Fillers can cause the lips to look a little uneven for a short time. This doesn't necessarily mean that anything has gone wrong and it may just take a little time for the product to fully settle and for residual swelling to subside.
My lips are swollen, lumpy, and a little uneven, when will they get better? This is the most commonly asked question on Realself.com. The lips take about 7-10 days to settle down after getting filled.
In some cases, we recommend our patients massage their fillers following treatment to smooth them out below the skin; however, too much massage too soon may cause the filler to migrate slightly.
Although extremely rare, dermal fillers are able to migrate within the skin if consistent and adequate pressure is applied to them. For this reason, we advise patients not to get a facial, massage (on the treated skin), or microdermabrasion for the first two weeks following their filler injections.
It is not likely that the filler products would move if you wait at least a few days before pressing really hard on the areas and having extractions. The hyaluronic acid fillers settle nicely into the skin, and once any swelling goes down, it would be pretty unusual for anyone to be able to displace them.
Fillers remain moldable for 1-2 weeks, and pressure can deform your filler.
The filler can take several weeks to soften and settle into your skin. This means that patients won't see the ultimate results of their treatment immediately. Although individual results will vary, many people achieve the full effect within two weeks after receiving their injections.
Unless you go to extremes with lip fillers or choose a very unskilled injector, your lips won't be permanently stretched. This means that if you choose to stop having lip filling injections, your lips will likely return to their normal proportions.
Answer: Lip swelling after filler
Lips can often get very swollen with filler injections. Use some ice compresses, keep the head elevated, and take some ibuprofen. Some patients say that Benadryl also helps to decrease the swelling. They will often look overcorrected for about 7-10 days.
Hyaluronidase Injections (Vitrase, Wydase)
Hyaluronidase (Vitrase and Wydase are different names for the same enzyme) is an injectable product that is applied to wherever the unwanted filler is. This enzyme breaks-down hyaluronic-acid and basically undoes the filler treatment.
And yes, using too much lip filler product can permanently stretch lip skin. If this occurs, it is possible to perform surgery to remove excess skin from the lips.
Answer: Filler to the Lips
you can massage the fillers and have some movement, especially the first day or so. I would be careful though and make sure you speak to your injector first as you can also move the filler out of the lip and undo the work you had done.
Hyaluronidase will not help with fillers such as Radiesse, Bellafill, and Sculptra. In certain patients, a steroid injection may help reverse the effects of some of these fillers to an extent, but the only surefire way to “undo” the results of these fillers is to wait for them to be absorbed by the body.
Fillers come in pre-filled syringes, usually with 1 mL per syringe. To avoid duck lips, stick to one syringe per treatment. Honestly, some times we won't even use the whole syringe to avoid the risk of duck lips.
Gentle massage
Gently press your lips between your thumbs and forefingers and roll your lips between your fingers. Massage your lips 2-3 days after having a lip injection.
"Lip filler migration is generally a result of the fact that hyaluronic acid fillers absorb water, and they can begin to create some extra volume and extra absorption of volume in areas that were outside of the primary injection site," says Dr. Karam.
Dr. Frank says the best way to deal with migration is to dissolve the filler with hyaluronidase (an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid gels). In just a few hours, hyaluronidase softens the filler and returns the lips to a more natural shape, projection, and size.
Lips may get more swelling on one side than on the other side. Because of this, patients may notice a little bit of asymmetry or unevenness. I often tell my patients to wait 10 days or so, before I would re-see them relating to this.
Answer: Swelling after Filler injection
If a local anesthetic is injected first, such as for a cheek injection or sometimes for lip injection, the amount of fluid will add to initial volume. Lidocaine also has a vasodilatory effect and therefore swelling.
Fillers work by pushing up the skin and adding volume to areas of deficit. If you massage them they will flatten out and will certainly loose their effect. Gentle rubbing in of face skin products should be fine though.
