Your water could be hard, meaning it contains more minerals than usual, in particular calcium, magnesium, and iron. It can also be soft, meaning it's lower in minerals than normal. While these minerals are usually fine for drinking, it can cause breakouts, dryness, and irritation on your skin.
Yep, it's true. “When you wash your face with tap water, it's harsh on your skin,” says Ellen Marmur, M.D., a dermatologist in New York City. She explains that it can cause acne by drying out the skin and, in turn, increasing inflammation.
Hard water, it turns out, exists in many locations. It alters our skin's oil so that instead of flowing like a liquid, it becomes a bit thicker and waxier. This can lead to clogged pores, which causes many complexion problems ranging from blackheads and larger pimples to rosacea.
“Hot water strips the skin of its natural oils and healthy bacteria,” Grous explains, “which plays a major role in keeping moisture in—and the bad stuff out. And because dryness triggers the sebaceous glands to produce more sebum, hot water can worsen preexisting acne or cause a breakout.”
While drinking a few glasses of water can be part of a hydrating routine and help to remove toxins, it can't cure your acne. That's because acne can be caused by a host of factors, including genetics, which water intake alone can't solve.
Examples include white bread, corn flakes, puffed rice, potato chips, white potatoes or fries, doughnuts or other pastries, sugary drinks such as milkshakes, and white rice. Findings from small studies suggest that following a low-glycemic diet may reduce the amount of acne you have.
Can drinking water cause acne? This can happen only if you are drinking water that is not clean. Tap water can be high in salts and calcium, which can throw off your skin's pH balance. A high amount of minerals and magnesium can cause the skin to become dry.
Cold water can be especially beneficial for dry or acne-prone skin, says Knapp. “If you have chronically dry skin, hot water can strip your sebum levels (oils) and exacerbate the issue, so cold water is a good alternative.”
Cold water tightens your pores and reduces the overproduction of sebum and excretion of acne-causing bacteria. In contrast, hot water opens them and does the complete opposite, leaving your skin more prone to irritation.
Drinking atleast 3-4 litres of water will help flush out body and skin toxins.
Our pores can get clogged and enlarged throughout the day. The more water you drink, the better balance of oil and water on the surface of your skin. This can help reduce your pore size, decrease acne breakouts, and reduce blemishes.
Acne develops when sebum — an oily substance that lubricates your hair and skin — and dead skin cells plug hair follicles. Bacteria can trigger inflammation and infection resulting in more severe acne.
If you deal with acne you should shower and wash your face daily or a couple of times a day. This will help with breakouts. It also depends on your personal preference. If you feel better with a daily showering routine, go for it.
When used on inflammatory acne, ice also has the potential to decrease redness, thereby making your pimples less noticeable. It can also treat pain that occurs with cystic and nodular acne. This is due to the short-term numbing effect ice creates.
Many doctors say a daily shower is fine for most people. (More than that could start to cause skin problems.) But for many people, two to three times a week is enough and may be even better to maintain good health. It depends in part on your lifestyle.

Scrubbing your skin with a washcloth, loofah, or harsh exfoliant will cause significant irritation — and may worsen your acne-prone skin. To prevent acne, always wash with only lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser.
While a cold compress can minimize inflammation and make pimples less noticeable or painful, it will not remove the contents inside a pimple.
Your sebum production has gone haywire
If your skin is already oily, then over-moisturizing it can trigger the body to produce more oil. This means more acne and blackheads.
When you're overhydrated, you will notice some swelling or discoloration of your feet, hands, and lips. When the cells swell, the skin will also swell. Weak muscles that cramp easily. When the electrolyte levels drop because of drinking too much water, your body balance goes down.
Acne may worsen if you: Get too little sleep. Eat certain foods. Use oily makeup and skin care products.
