Now, we all love a good pastel spring sun dress, but Winters stay away from yellow. Just like any muted color, pale pastel yellow can make the sharpness that defines a winter appear more dull or lackluster. Our favorite swap for this pastel need is the shade of sea glass.
Even with my fair skin, I've always loved this bold, cheerful shade no matter the season. While yellow is typically associated with warmer months, I firmly believe it can (and should!) be worn year-round. Especially in the colder months, a pop of yellow adds some fun to neutral winter wardrobes of blacks and grays.
Colours to Avoid
Avoid warm, earthy colours, such as golden browns and rusty oranges, as they will clash with your naturally cool colouring. Soft, muted colours, such as dusty blues and lavender, will wash you out since they are not intense enough.

Warm Autumn's best colours are usually warm greens, yellows, orangey reds, very peachy (yellowed) pinks and every shade of golden brown from warm chocolate tones through to light tan.

Topper says, “Opposites attract: If you're fair-skinned, a golden or brownish-yellow color palette is your go-to. If your natural complexion is darker, light and pastel yellows will complement you best.” Being comfortable in your own shoes – literally – is an important part of pulling off a new color.
Warm+Smokey – yellows are fabulous on you, especially the softer toned varieties like mustards. Cool+Bright – yellows are generally not the best colours if you have Cool colouring, so choose a cool yellow and then pair it with one of your darker cool colours to create contrast, eg dark navy and cool pale yellow.
True/Leaf Autumn
Often a True Autumn will look like a 'typical' autumn, with reddish toned hair, light brown or green eyes and fair celtic skin that goes golden in summer. Your best colours are rust red, mustard yellow, medium olive green and mid-browns and camels.
Clothing: Winters should generally avoid large blocks of gold color in their clothing. Instead, gold can be introduced in patterns or details, providing a luxurious accent against a backdrop of cooler colors.
Corporate Clothing
True Winter is the easiest tone for a corporate wardrobe. Black or grey suits, white or icy shirts, done and done. But many options from the True Winter palette will work, as long as you avoid mixing too many accent colours.
True Winter Best Hair Colours
Cool shades are most flattering for True Winters; this includes cool dark ash brown or natural black, dark cherry or a cool-toned blonde. Be sure to avoid warm colours such as caramel or strawberry blonde as they can drain your colouring and they will not work with your striking features.
Warm Spring's best colours are usually warm greens, yellows, orangey reds, very peachy pinks and every shade of light brown from tan to palest beige.
Plus, it looks good with red, orange, purple, and many shades of blue. It looks equally good in all seasons.
Mustard yellow usually doesn't look great on winter types because it's a warm, earthy color. Winter types generally have cool, crisp undertones in their skin, and mustard yellow's warmth can clash with these cooler tones.
If you have brown, tan, or dark skin, it's your lucky day: every shade of yellow looks amazing on you! Much like many other bright colours—pinks, greens, oranges…—yellow seems to be made to compliment your skin tone and is guaranteed to look spectacular on you. Just use your powers wisely!
Best yellows for Winter palettes
For our Winter babes, you look stunning in neutral-cool yellow shades! Cool Winter gals, look out for lemon yellow shades as well. Your yellow is very similar to Cool Summer's, but it has just a tad bit more punch to it,.
If you choose the cooler Blue, Green, and Violet hues then you are most likely a "Winter" or a "Summer". If you choose the warmer Red, Orange, and Yellow hues then you are most likely a "Spring" or an "Autumn".
Truth be told I love to wear yellow any Autumn or Winter. In Autumn it makes me feel like I've dressed to match the lovely Autumn leaves and in Winter it gives a break from black. Having said this each season has special trend notes. It's always good to adapt your yellow pieces to reflect the current trend.
The Perfect Yellow for Summer Seasons
All three seasons can share blonde and chiffon as cool light versions of yellow. Light summer can also wear butter. Cool summer steals a bit of brightness from its sister season of winter and can wear pale yellow. Soft summer sticks with a darker muted yellow like corn.
If you're fair (i.e. pink/blue undertones), you don't want anything too cool, because this will wash you out more, but a bright yellow or mustard should perfectly compliment your colouring. Pastel and cooler yellows should be worn away from the face, in the form of a purse or a pair of shoes.
White is an incredibly safe bet because it is a multi-purpose color that works for all kinds of events and seasons.
