Use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser daily to keep your skin clean after your IPL treatment. Use SPF. We recommend a minimum of SPF30 but SPF50 is best. Don't forget to reapply throughout the day, not just first thing in the morning.
The short answer is Yes. The treated area may experience some reddening and swelling. After treatment, you can apply Vaseline, after-sun cream, or aloe Vera gel to the treated area for soothing skin. The area might need to be soothed by applying an ice pack when you use old laser technology.
Hello! We recommend using any type of moisturizer or post cream/balm that has ingredients like oats, ceramides, hyaluronic acid, peptides, and zinc. PCA Skin makes a cream that is called Clinicalm which is what we recommend for our patients post-IPL or after any facial procedures that need post care.
Your skin may feel slightly sunburned in the hours following treatment. You can use aloe vera or Aquaphor to calm symptoms. If your skin feels itchy, an over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream may help. For the next 24 hours after treatment, you should avoid strenuous activity or intense exercise.
Vaseline ointment (only Vaseline and not Neosporin or other antibiotic ointments not suggested by your doctor) may be used if skin is broken, to prevent infection. Your skin will be fragile for 2-3 days. Use gentle cleansers, but do not rub the skin vigorously and avoid hot water during this time.
Apply Aquaphor or Alba Un-Petroleum Jelly immediately after cleansing. It is imperative that the treated skin does not dry out; otherwise it may increase the risk of scar formation and/or infection. To that end, please reapply the Aquaphor or Alba Un-Petroleum Jelly if the treated skin feels tight or dry.
What are the immediate post-treatment care steps for IPL? Immediately after IPL treatment, apply a cold compress to soothe the skin, keep the skin moisturized, and protect it from the sun with a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher.
Use a mild cleanser (such as Cetaphil or Cerave) and a mild moisturizer after the treatment for a few days before resuming your normal skin routine. You may resume your normal skin routine after 3 days.
As a general rule, the smaller the capillaries, the quicker they are to clear up. Typically, you won't start seeing results until two to four weeks after the first treatment, as it can take the body's lymphatic system that long to remove the dead material.
This barrier keeps the wound moist, which is essential for the natural healing process, encouraging the migration of skin cells and reducing the overall time for wound healing. Does Vaseline boost healing? Indeed, Vaseline aids in boosting the healing process.
Immediately after treatment:
Use the product at least 14 days or more after treatment. Seal in moisture and protect lasered skin with an occlusive ointment like EltaMD Laser Post Procedure Balm or PCA SKIN Skin Procedure Healing Ointment.
Avoid any irritants to your skin, such as any products containing Tretinoin, Retinol, Benzoyl Peroxide, Glycolic/Salicylic Acids, Astringents or Vitamin C for one week after your treatment.

When bathing, use cool water and gentle soap; pat skin dry with a clean, soft towel. Moisturize with over-the-counter hydrocortisone 1% mixed with either Vaseline® or Aquaphor®, up to three times daily or as needed to help reduce irritation or itching.
Immediately applying makeup post-IPL may irritate sensitive skin or clog pores, increasing the risk of infection. Waiting a full day allows the treated area to heal and reduces potential complications. After that time, you can apply makeup gently, ensuring it doesn't interfere with your skin's recovery.
Apply Calendula cream/lotion to treated areas at least 3 times a day for at least 48 hours after treatment. An oral, over-the-counter anti-inflammatory (ibuprofen such as Advil®) or an analgesic (acetaminophen such as Tylenol®) may be taken to reduce discomfort. We recommend ibuprofen for its anti-inflammatory effect.
5. Apply a gentle moisturizer immediately after treatment. Use a mild cleanser (such as Cetephil, Aquinil, or Dove) and a mild moisturizer after the treatment for a few days before resuming your normal skin routine.
What Are the Black Dots? The small black dots you may notice post-laser treatment are often referred to as “pepper spots” or “hair cast”. Essentially, they are tiny remnants of hair follicles that remain trapped in the skin as your body works to expel them.
Avoid using harsh skincare products, including exfoliants, scrubs, perfumed soaps and lotions, bleaching creams, astringents, and retinol until your skin has healed. Chlorine may also irritate your skin, so avoid pools, spas, and saunas. Don't apply makeup to treated skin for a few days.
Use a moisturizing or hydrating product before slugging as Vaseline® Original Healing Jelly will lock this into your skin. And finally, apply an even layer of Vaseline® Original Healing Jelly on your face over your skincare products.
Searching for over-the-counter products meant for dry, sensitive skin will be a good place to start finding the right moisturizer for you. Drugstore brands such as CeraVe, Cetaphil, Eucerin, and Neutrogena make gentle, hydrating moisturizers that can be used after laser treatments.
