Applying a coat of petroleum jelly can help create a seal over the tattoo and repel water.
Seal with Clear Nail Polish
Clear nail polish can act as a durable sealant for your temporary tattoo. Apply a thin layer over the tattoo, and let it dry completely.
Apply a clear acrylic sealer or tattoo sealant over the tattoo using a sponge or brush. Let it dry completely. This won't make it truly permanent but can extend its lifespan. If you have skin-safe ink (like certain markers or pens), you can carefully trace over the temporary tattoo.
You have a temporary tattoo that will last up to two weeks! Apply Vaseline regularly to help it last even longer.
Once your pick your medium, let the fake-ink flow. The final touch feels a bit obvious, but adding a setting spray or hairspray over the tattoo will create an anti-smudge seal.
Allow your custom temporary tattoo to set before getting it wet. Once set, your tattoo should hold up great in the shower, pool, or while sweating. Fully submerging the tattoo in water, however, may cause it to come off more quickly.
Apply Baby Powder
Just fill your palm with enough baby powder to cover the tattoo, then coat the image completely. It shouldn't bleed or smear when you rub it into the design. Wipe away any powder that hasn't adhered to your skin.
Using warm water isn't necessary. But it's a nice touch to make you more comfortable during the tattoo application. Make sure you get the tattoo fully wet with that damp cloth and press it against your skin for a full thirty seconds.
Coat the drawing in baby powder.
Pour a generous amount of baby powder into your hand, and thoroughly coat the sharpie drawing with the powder. Rub it into the drawing; it shouldn't bleed or smear. Wipe off any excess powder that doesn't stick to your skin.
If you don't have baby powder, you can also try sprinkling flour, cornstarch, or baking soda on your design. Try liquid bandage: Liquid bandage can help seal your temporary tattoo and can be applied to temporary tattoos that transfer onto the skin as well as those drawn on with temporary tattoo pens.
Gentle washing with mild soap and water is recommended to keep the tattoo intact. It is important to moisturize regularly to prevent the tattoo from drying out and flaking off prematurely. Avoid exfoliating the tattooed skin, as this can cause the design to fade faster.
Moisturize
Once it's fully dried, apply a water-based moisturizer to your tattooed skin. (Oil-based products tend to cause temporary tattoos to smear.)
Spray your design with perfume until it is completely saturated. Leave the design to soak in some warm water for at least 3 minutes. Remove from the water and re-spray with perfume. Place the design onto your skin and hold in place with a warm, damp cloth for at least 6 minutes.
A temporary tattoo lives on the skin for a short period. It generally does not last more than a few days and can be removed easily. Also, it does not leave any permanent mark on the skin.
Shave with a sanitized razor, then sanitize your skin with rubbing alcohol. Draw a design with a sharpie. Dip your sterilized needle into the ink, then poke over the design. Listen for a small “pop” and watch for the needle to tug on your skin.
Temporary tattoos are primarily made from a combination of paper and adhesive materials. The paper used is a special transfer paper designed to hold the ink and transfer it onto the skin without causing irritation.
Using Make-Up After You Put on Your Temporary Tattoo
There is absolutely nothing to stop you applying make-up once your tattoo is in place and looking fantastic. However, if you are planning to put make-up on the same area, we suggest you seal your tattoo first with our Matt Sealer.
The AAD states that petroleum-based products, like petroleum jelly itself, can actually cause your tattoo ink to fade.
For successful removal, turn to an oil-based moisturiser. Carefully apply baby oil or petroleum jelly to the temporary tattoo you want to remove. Various household oils can get the job done, including olive oil, baby oil, and coconut oil. Since most temporary tattoos are waterproof, regular soapy water won't suffice.
By reducing the loss of moisture via transepidermal water loss, petroleum jelly can prevent chapped hands and lips, and soften nail cuticles. This property is exploited to provide heat insulation: petroleum jelly can be used to keep swimmers warm in water when training, or during channel crossings or long ocean swims.
