Traditional Spray Tan: Leave on for 6-8 hours before rinsing, but the tan will continue to develop over 12-24 hours. Rapid Spray Tan (aussie glows' classic spray tan): Leave on for 1-4 hours based on how dark you want the tan, and then rinse. The tan will still take 12-24 hours to fully develop.
Optimal Time to Shower After a Fake Tan
Timing your first rinse is key to achieving a flawless, streak-free glow. Wait 4-8 hours before showering to let your tan fully develop, but avoid leaving it on for more than 24 hours.
24 hours after your spray tan you can shower as normal, use body wash and lotion. Coconut oil and any other natural oil is fine to use with spray tans. Aveeno lotion, hydro boost and cerave face wash are all safe to use with a spray tan on.
You can get a pedicure after your spray tan has set in (so wait a day) just be sure they do NOT use exfoliating scrub or hot towels on your legs.
Ideally, you want to have a shower between 6-12 hours after your spray tan. If you do it sooner then you risk washing some of the solution off whilst it is still developing. If you leave it too long then you risk developing noticeable streaks.
Avoid rubbing your skin with your hands until after showering. Stay away from activities that will cause you to sweat or get wet. This includes exercising, being in excessive heat, saunas, sex, swimming, bathing or showering, etc, until the tan has fully developed (8 to 12 hours).
Please note: the tan will continue to develop even after the shower, so do not be alarmed if you're not as tanned as you expect to be. The tan will continue to develop over the next 12-24 hours.
How long after a spray tan can I wear tight clothes? While it's tempting to jump back into your skinny jeans or body-hugging dress right after your session, it's best to hold off for a bit. The tan will fully develop and set into your skin after about 24 hours.
How long does fake tan last while swimming? Depending the type of tanning product you use and how dark it is, your fake tan usually lasts more than a week but less than 10 days.
After your spray tan appointment, you will need to stay dry for 8 hours to let the tan develop. After that, you can shower off the solution with water only. Twenty-four (24) hours after your spray tan is when you should begin to use soap and moisturizing lotion.
Can I Spray Tan with Hairy Legs? Spray tanning with hairy legs is absolutely your personal choice. However, bear in mind, excessive hair can hinder an even tan. It's recommended to remove unwanted body hair before the session for better results.
You can help your pores close quickly by switching your shower to cold for a quick blast of cold magic. Alternatively, if this sounds like your worst nightmare, you could rub something cold from the freezer over your problem areas so less self-tan gets into them.
Once applied, you can wash the tan off after just 1 hour, but for a deeper long-lasting tan leave on your skin for up 8 hours. It really is personal choice. You might have to test it out a few times to work out what suits you the best! For a deeper glow, we recommend letting your tan develop for 6-8 hours.
Use a hairdryer. Once you have the perfect coverage, grab your hairdryer to help it set. Be sure it's blowing cool air and move it along your body. Not only will this help the solution dry faster, but it'll also help to kick the tanning development process into overdrive.
How long should I wait after a session before showering? To give the DHA enough time to fully set, it is recommended you wait a minimum of six hours after your spray tan. If you wait 24 hours you will see the optimal results. Showering sooner may diminish the intensity of the tan.
If possible, do not wear a bra until you have rinsed the cosmetic bronzer off. Please know that if you exercise and sweat heavily your tan can fade faster, especially if your clothing is tight. The same applies to sweating feet inside shoes.
Continue to avoid makeup, perfume, deodorant, soaps, and lotions during the development period. Do not wear tight clothing or bras after a session. Follow your technician's advice on when to shower based on the solution used. Avoid sweating excessively for the first 24 hours.
Face washes containing salicylic acid and/or benzoyl peroxide are NOT RECOMMENDED because they can eat away at your spray tan. Your face will fade faster as you wash it more frequently. We recommend using gentle cleansers - exfoliating face washes and Clarisonics are NOT RECOMMENDED!
Once you have washed off your fake tan moisturise your skin daily to increase the longevity of your tan. Dry, dehydrated skin will cause your dead skin cells to shed quicker, taking the fake tan you worked so hard for with it. Use an oil-free moisturiser as oil can break down the product [2].
Soak in oil and buff with an exfoliating mitt
Oils, on the other hand, break down DHA and can fade fake tan faster. It does, so lather up or soak yourself in oil. You can also use coconut or olive oil, which should be left on the skin for 10 minutes before washing off.
