Bangs work for every hair type—even curly or fine hair.
You might worry that bangs will take away from your volume, but that's not the case. “Long, swept over bangs actually make fine hair look thicker,” he says.
But if you hate the way your new fringe looks, try adding layers around your face. "Adding angles can really make your bangs less offensive. It'll frame your face much more nicely," said Lima.
An oval face is a very good face shape for bangs, the styling options are unlimited. Straight-across oval face bangs, cropped baby bangs for an oval shape face, piece-y thick fringes, short layered bangs, oval face wispy bangs, etc.
If You Have a Long Face and/or High Forehead: This face shape is similar to the oval-shaped, but the forehead, cheeks and jawline are all the same width. To complement this face shape, don't get baby bangs because they will further elongate your face.
“Part your hair and accessorize with two creaseless pins—one on each side to secure the bangs out of the face. Ask your hairstylist to camouflage your bangs with some face-framing layers. “Adding face-framing layers to the front hairline helps blend bangs during the growth phase,” Izquierdo says.
How long does it take to grow out bangs? According to Onur-Taylor, it typically takes bangs three to four months to grow out—depending on the fringe style, the length you're starting with, and how fast your hair grows (which, on average, is half an inch per month).
If your bangs refuse to stay together, you might need to wet them and re-style them. You can use a wet washcloth, moist cotton ball, or spray bottle of water to dampen your bangs. Then, blow dry and style them as you normally would to get them back into place.
The blunter the bangs the more your face will look rounder. On the other hand, if you fringe the bangs shorter in the middle and longer on the edges, you'll get the slimming look you desire. Like long hair and asymmetrical bobs, having face framing layers will elongate your face for a slimming look.
Like any accessory, bangs should enhance your features, not overwhelm them. For long and narrow faces, "blunt fringe that hits below the brows will make your face look fuller," explains hairstylist and co-founder of R+Co, Garren. If your face is round or square, try bangs just above the brows, he says.
Bangs can add a youthful quality to your face by making it appear smaller. But be careful to not have a bang that is too short. You want your bangs to come down long enough over your forehead so they don't accentuate any fine lines around your eyes.
Basically, the bottleneck bang cut combines the face-framing wispy hairs of a traditional curtain bang cut with short, eyebrow grazing traditional bangs. It's already been seen on celebs like Anne Hathaway and Elizabeth Olsen.
Trim your bangs regularly and keep your hair healthy
While it may seem counterproductive, scheduling regular bangs trims with your hairstylist will ensure that your bangs stay healthy, which means they can absorb more vitamins, moisture, and other goodness to help the hair grow faster.
"It's so hard to grow out your bangs because they're constantly changing where they frame the face as they grow, and not every length is flattering," she says. "It's tough to have the patience to let them catch up with the rest of the hair, so you have to be creative with styling so they blend with your current cut."
As previously mentioned, it typically takes anywhere from three to four months to grow out your bangs. This does depend on how long your fringe currently is, your hairstyle, and how quickly your hair naturally grows.
What Face Shape Looks Good with Bangs? Bangs work best on an oval face. So, if your face is naturally oval, you're in luck! Another face shape that is suitable for any kind of bang is the heart shape. However, if your face is more square or oblong, don't be disheartened!
Consider your hair texture
“If your hair is fine or thin, a heavy fringe may not work because there isn't enough weight for the hair to lay in place. Thick hair may have trouble with a baby bangs because it would need to be thinned out a lot to lay flat.
French-girl bangs are thick, full, and long (grazing your eyebrows or even slightly longer, depending on your preferences), and they lay across your forehead perfectly.
One of the most popular styles in South Korea is the air bang, also referred to as “see-through bangs” for their wispiness and the way they show glimpses of your forehead.
Forget what you thought about long hair past the age of 40—thick hair actually looks more youthful and polished when it falls shoulder-length or longer. Shorter hair has a tendency to expand at the ends, leaving you with an unflattering triangle effect.
