According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the average cost is $466 per session, the same as Botox. The recommended dosage of Dysport is up to 50 units divided into five portions injected into the targeted area. “The rule of thumb is one Botox unit equals three Dysport units,” says Dr. Khetarpal.
Dysport is a great option for those who have moderate to severe frown lines. Botox, on the other hand, can be used to treat many different types of wrinkles, including crow's feet, forehead wrinkles, and laugh lines. If you have mild to moderate wrinkles, Botox may be a better option for you.
The price per unit is significantly cheaper than Botox. Since the number of units will be higher than Botox, the price per treatment comes up to about the same. Dysport also differs in terms of its molecular behavior and diffusion.
On average, a Dysport injection will last for about three to four months, while a Botox treatment can last from four to six. While both of them use the same neurotoxin to prevent folds and lines from forming in the skin, they do have minor differences that can affect how long they last.
Dysport is a smaller sized molecule, so although you may need more units of Dysport than you do Botox, Dysport is cheaper by the unit, so the total price ends up to be about the same, and sometimes even cheaper. Dysport also diffuses a greater distance in the muscle, creating a softer, natural look.
There's also some evidence that switching between neuromodulators can help extend results, kind of like developing a “tolerance” for one or the other. So, if you've been all about Botox for years, you might also find that changing to Dysport helps you enjoy longer-lasting results.
A Dysport anti-aging treatment for frown lines requires an average of 60 units of Dysport, with an average cost of $4 per unit. So the total cost for an average Dysport treatment for frown lines is around $450.
The main differences between Botox and Dysport are:
Most studies have used a ratio of 2.5:1, meaning 25 units of Dysport have approximately the same action as 10 units of Botox.
Dosage: There is one important difference between Botox and Dysport: they are dosed differently. It takes three units of Dysport to equal the muscle relaxing strength of one unit of Botox. This distinction is very important, 50 units of Botox does not equal 50 units of Dysport.
Do not have Dysport treatment if you: are allergic to Dysport or any of its ingredients (see the end of the Medication Guide for a list of ingredients), are allergic to cow's milk protein, had an allergic reaction to any other botulinum toxin product, such as Myobloc®, Botox®, or Xeomin®, have a skin infection at the ...
Because Dysport is naturally eliminated from the body over time, the effects normally don't last longer than three to four months for first-time patients.
Most patients experience their results appearing after 2-3 days, but it may be up to 1 week before you can see full temporary muscle paralysis. Once this happens, your results will appear the same for the next 3-5 months.
You may need anywhere from 20 to 90 units of Dysport® in your forehead area. This varies depending on the depth of your wrinkles, the results you want to see, and your individual reaction to the treatment.
Typically, 30 to 60 units of Dysport IL are required to smooth away forehead wrinkles.
Answer: Dysport lasts between 3-4 months
50 units is typically less than what most patients would use for the forehead and the 11s. Most patients can handle 50 units of dysport just at the glabella (the 11s between the eyebrows).
Dysport wrinkle treatments injections give patients a temporary correction of moderate to severe facial lines and wrinkles. The injections are used primarily to correct wrinkles around the eyes and forehead.
Answer: Botox not lasting long enough
The most common reason for the Botox to not be lasting long enough is that too low a dose is being injected - the dosing depends on your age and strength of your particular muscles, and is best ascertained by a cosmetic expert such as a dermatologist or plastic surgeon.
There are 100 units of Botox and Xeomin per syringe and 300 units of Dysport per syringe.
The amount of Dysport or Botox used is highly customized dependent on the activity of the patient's musculature, but typically 4 to 8 units are placed on each side to allow this muscle to relax and elevate the brows.
Dysport and Botox only stop the muscle that caused the wrinkle (11s). It does not repair the skin if it is already damaged.
Answer: Muscle compensation
Sometimes when neurotoxins are injected into one muscle, another muscle in your face will compensate for the now underactive muscle. This can cause formation of new wrinkles that you may have never had before.
Most people only need one treatment session to see their desired cosmetic results. However, extremely severe cases of wrinkles and folds may require two or three treatment sessions before the final results are realized. In such cases, it will be several weeks before you can enjoy the look you've been longing for.
