Day before: Don't drink alcoholic beverages one day prior to lip injections, and avoid any blood thinning over the counter drugs such as Aleve, ibuprofen, aspirin, Motrin, and so on. Day of your appointment: Arrive at the appointment with a completely clean face, that is, washed face without any makeup.
Don't wax, tweeze, bleach, or use hair removal products on the treatment area for at least two days before the treatment. Stop taking supplements one week prior. Your provider can give you a list to avoid, which might include St John's Wort, vitamin E, ginseng, Gingko Biloba, Primrose oil, and garlic.
Pre-Treatment Care Is Important
A couple of days before getting lip filler injections, you shouldn't take aspirin, ibuprofen, Vitamin E, or fish oil supplements. Basically, all of these medications thin your blood. This can result in excessive bleeding during the procedure, so you should really try to avoid that.

Pain, redness or itchiness at the injection site is also normal, and should be mild. If you experience severe pain, redness or itching, or pain outside of the lip area, see your doctor. Overfilling is a concern for some patients, especially in the first week after treatment when lips are still swollen.
DERMAL FILLERS
Avoid taking aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen, Advil®, Motrin®, Nuprin®, Aleve®, Celebrex®, Fish oil, Gingko Biloba , St. John's Wort and high doses of vitamin E for at least 7-10 days before your appointment, unless medically necessary.
You should avoid drinking any alcohol for 24 hours before lip filler injections. This is because alcohol is a vasodilator. In simple terms, alcohol causes your blood vessels to dilate and widen. This means the blood vessels in your lips take up more space beneath the skin, increasing the risk of bruising.
Can You Shower After Lip Fillers? You should avoid hot showers for the first 24 hours. Hot temperatures cause your blood vessels to dilate and may increase swelling. Make sure the water is lukewarm if you take a shower after your lip filler procedure.
After 12 to 24 hours, your pain should go away. Your swelling should go away after 24 to 48 hours, but it may take up to a week. If you want your lips filled before a big event, like a wedding, you should schedule the procedure at least two weeks ahead of time to make sure you've completely recovered.
There are no limits to what a patient can eat after lip injections. The only thing to keep in mind is that most fillers contain a numbing medication to create a more painless procedure. Patients should wait until the numbing agent has worn off before eating after lip fillers.
Eat plenty of hydrating fruits and vegetables and try to avoid excess sodium, which may worsen swelling. Avoid high temperatures, like steam rooms, saunas, or heated exercise classes for 48 hours after treatment. High heat can make swelling more pronounced.
You are not allowed to smile for a few days after a lip filler. Facial expressions such as smiling, laughing, or frowning should have zero impact on your lip filler. It is actually better for you to smile and gently massage your lips, to help spread the product and produce a more natural end-result.
Try to avoid salty foods for a few days after getting a filler treatment to avoid swelling. Also stay well hydrated by drinking plenty of water. This will flush out the salt from your system, which will in turn reduce the risk of swelling.
Swelling and redness around the lip area are common during lip injection recovery. The amount of lip filler used can also impact the level of swelling. This normal side effects with lip injections will be more noticeable and typically peak after two days, subsiding after two weeks.
After dermal filler injections, you may notice some swelling, redness, bruising, and / or tenderness in the lips. Typically, filler symptoms last about two weeks after treatment. About two days after lip filler injections, you'll likely start to notice the swelling is going down.
Avoid overfilling
Even though dermal injections usually come in 1mL syringes, you should avoid using the entire syringe in one appointment.
