If SecondSkin is used, keep on for 2-3 days. You can shower with a new tattoo. It is ok to get your tattoo wet. But DO NOT soak your new tattoo.
Tattoo Aftercare with Second Skin
That is completely normal, so do try to keep the second skin on for the full 24 hours. After that 24 hours has passed, remove the second skin and clean your tattoo with neutral/unscented soap, and then pat it dry with a clean paper towel.
While SecondSkin™ is waterproof, you should never submerge a new tattoo in water. This includes pools, hot tubs, baths, lakes, oceans, and puddles. Showers are ok though.
You can resume most of your everyday activities with SecondSkin with care to avoid prolonged sun exposure. Exercise and sweating should be kept to a minimum as sweat will not be able to escape the adhesive bandage and can lead to infection. SecondSkin bandages are waterproof and breathable.
NEVER itch or pick your tattoo: Picking off scabs or itching your tattoo will delay healing and may damage your ink. Drying your tattoo with washcloths or towels can also remove scabs and delay healing. Friction from wearing tight pants or shirts over your tattoo can also irritate the skin.
If your tattoo is bandaged with Saniderm (Second Skin), you should keep the bandage on for 3-4 days. During this time, it is normal to see some fluid build up beneath the bandage. (If the bandage begins to leak, you must remove the bandage and follow the standard aftercare instructions listed below).
Avoid hot tubs, swimming pools and the beach during the healing process (approximately 2 weeks) Always apply a high SPF sunscreen on the tattoo before exposure to the sun.
While you're wearing the second-skin, you might notice the surface underneath accumulating slight moisture, which can make the tattoo look blurry. This is plasma building up from your skin and pulling up micro fragments of ink – it's a completely normal part of the healing process.
Sweat Buildup Inside SecondSkin
During a rigorous workout, you may notice sweat accumulating beneath the SecondSkin bandage. While SecondSkin is breathable, it's not designed to wick away a large amount of sweat, which can create an environment conducive to bacterial growth.
Provided the wearer does not have an allergy to adhesives, second skin is arguably the greatest game-changer in the tattoo industry, making the healing process faster, safer and more efficient!
SANDIDERM / TEGADERM / TATTOODERM / SECOND SKIN:
Leave the film on for 3 - 5 days (however many days the artist recommended). During this time, the tattoo may look blurry due to excess blood and/or plasma that may leave the skin.
Not only is the second skin tattoo covering amazing and helps to prevent scabbing, the tattoo cream is great!
Use the Aquaphor for the first 2-3 days then switch to a regular FRAGRANCE-FREE lotion such as Lubriderm, or any other fragrance-free brand. 5. Fresh tattoos sometimes “weep” during the first couple of days, meaning that plasma and ink form a thin moist coating on the skin. This can be DABBED with a clean paper towel.
If it does leak out (and the seal between the second skin and your skin is broken), remove the bandage and continue with aftercare as instructed below.
This helps to prevent the adhesive from sticking directly to the fresh tattoo until the tattoo begins to peel. Once this stage occurs, the peeling skin will cling to the film itself. There is no need to worry about Saniderm negatively affecting your ink at all.
Your tattoo is going through the normal healing process.
This milky skin sticks around for 1-2 weeks, and it might make your tattoo ink appear less vibrant. A lack of ink isn't a problem if your tattoo is still peeling and healing.
A: Tattoo ink bleeding, often referred to as a blowout, does not go away on its own. This occurs when the ink spreads into the surrounding tissue, causing a blurred or smudged appearance.
Second Skin protects your skin from friction and provides a waterproof, protective barrier that prevents contamination. This barrier also allows you to do anything you need while your tattoo is healing, from work to sleeping without a mess on your bed sheets.
If water gets under the bandage, remove it immediately and continue with the normal aftercare routine. Ink and plasma may come to the surface under the bandage and you may see some splotches or what appears to be double lines.
To aid the skin healing process, the tattoo needs to be kept moist. You can use a very thin layer of hypoallergenic ointment or fragrance-free lotion like Vaseline® Intensive Care™ Advanced Repair Unscented Lotion, or Vaseline® Healing Jelly Original. Repeat daily for 2-3 weeks to help wound healing.
Wash the tattoo thoroughly, rinse, and pat dry. Do not apply lotion or ointment before applying the next round of SecondSkin. Cut SecondSkin to the desired length and shape.
