Even if a shampoo promises to kill eggs, removing the nits by hand can speed up treatment and reduce the risk of a reinfestation. For the most effective egg removal, use a nit comb on the scalp every day for at least a week. This ensures that, even if some eggs go unnoticed, all or most are eventually removed.
Spinosad 0.9% topical suspension
Since it kills live lice as well as unhatched eggs, retreatment is usually not needed. Nit combing is not required. Spinosad topical suspension is approved for the treatment of children six months of age and older.
Pediculicides or medications that kill lice are the strongest measures to get rid of a lice infestation. Of the various pediculicides, ivermectin lotion has emerged as one of the strongest solutions to get rid of lice. A single application can kill the lice without any need for nit combing.

Lice eggs are so small you would never know if they hatched or not. The only way to prevent them from hatching would be to remove them with a good metal nit comb, or your fingernails.
Alcohol, particularly rubbing alcohol or isopropyl alcohol, can kill lice and their eggs (nits) upon contact. Its drying effect can dehydrate and kill adult lice, as well as dissolve nits' protective coatings, making them easier to remove.
Lotions and sprays for head lice and nits

Using any coconut scented shampoo and conditioner is an easy way to increase your defense. At 1% concentration, tea tree oil killed 100% of head lice after 30 minutes.
The reality is that any adult who has hair can get head lice. However, it is incredibly rare for adults without children to get head lice. One of the major reasons for this is that people typically do a good job of controlling head lice.
As with furniture and carpets, adult lice typically live for around 2 days on pillows and sheets without human contact. Nits will not hatch and will die within a week. People should machine wash any pillows or sheets someone with lice has used in hot water of more than 130°F (54.4°C) .
If wet combing has not worked or is not suitable, you could try a medicated lotion or spray. These kill head lice in all types of hair, and you can buy them from pharmacies, supermarkets or online. Head lice should die within a day. Some lotions and sprays come with a comb to remove dead lice and eggs.
Run your fingers along the hair shaft to see if you can easily move the suspected nit. If it truly is a nit it will not slip or fall off the hair shaft. If it does move, it most likely is not a nit as nits need to be pulled off the hair shaft with your finger nails or a good lice comb.
