There's a half-baked theory behind the white-dot makeup trick: By placing four dots around your eye in a diamond configuration — one on either side, as well as above and below your pupils — you're psychologically manipulating the person looking you in the eye.
White eyeliner is a makeup artist trick for brightening up the face and making your eyes look bigger and more awake, particularly when used on the bottom waterline. When using a dark color on the bottom lash line, it can make eyes look smaller and drawn-down, but white has the reverse effect.
Also known as the “four dots eye trick” or “four dots eye thing,” the trend involves applying four dots of white eyeliner on the inner and outer corners of your eyes, as well as above and below the center of your eye, to create a hypnotic love spell of the sorts.
You can use the white eyeliner to line your waterline to instantly lift your eyes and make them appear bigger. When you apply it on your waterline, it makes your eyeballs appear bigger. It is also a trick to use it on people with Oriental, Asian and deep set eyes.
The bold claims started from TikTok creator Michelle Diaz, who shares dating tips on her account. Diaz shared the hack on TikTok, saying that men have been unable to stop looking at her when she wears the white dot liner look.
The widespread use of kohl across the Mediterranean and the Middle East attests to its ability to protect the eye from infectious disease and be used as a cosmetic.
"You're gonna put your finger on the corner of your eye, and where you feel the pressure, that's where you're going to put your pencil liner." Bex draws a large dot of liner on her forefinger, places it in the spot she'd previously identified, and gently drags out the color into a wing. It's as easy as that!
Apply liquid concealer to an angled brush and draw two angled lines from your outer corners, connecting them to create your desired wing shape. "Basically, you're outlining an eyeliner wing without filling it in,” explains Nicole. For the most precise lines, she suggests using makeup tape.
Apply your makeup like you usually would. Then, take a white liquid liner, look straight ahead in the mirror, and gently dab on the following dots around each eye: one at the inner corner, one at the outer corner, one somewhere between your eyelid and eyebrow, and one below your lower lash line, in the under-eye area.
Plenty of shows set the tone for fashion trends, but few have become so celebrated for its makeup that it inspires a whole new genre—like Euphoria makeup. That's exactly what the hit HBO show did with its inventive use of glitter and artful takes on eyeliner.
What does white eyeliner do for your eyes? “White eyeliner makes the eyes look bigger and brighter,” says Ashley Gray, a professional makeup artist and the owner of Ashthetics Skincare. “Applying it to your lower waterline or doing a cat eye with a white eyeliner can really make the eyes pop.
You can also use white for more whimsical eyeliner looks—the white dot trend was even one of Google's top trending searches for 2022. White liner is especially good for making the eyes pop. "It instantly brightens the eyes and makes your eyeballs look whiter," the pro adds.

For instance, think shades of midnight blue and teal, shades of olive and emerald green, shades of vivid purple and soft purple for a regal look, and even grey and charcoal to bring out any gold flecks in your brown peepers.
What Is Floating Eyeliner? When creating other eyeliner looks, there's usually a standard set of steps you need to take to make it just right. But there are no rules with floating eyeliner. “[It's] a line that is unconventionally placed on the eye in a unique area or shape,” Mayo says.
The waterline eye trend requires coating both lash lines in deep, smudgy liner — a familiar look if you were a tween or older in the mid-00s. The 2022 version of the trend employs a more advanced technique than most probably used back in the day, but the results are no less striking.
“The invisible eyeliner trend is using the natural discoloration around the eyes as liner. Everyone has some darkness around their eyes (lid and under eye). The color can vary from purple, orange, peach, brown, etc. This technique uses that darkness as the base of the liner, explains celebrity makeup artist Emily Gray.
You start drawing eye lines from the outside first, then inward to get an equal endpoint. Once the line drawn straight along the eyelid, you can thicken the eyeliner along the line and on the outer corner of the eye to give a super thick eye effect. Whoop! Your natural eyeliner style is ready to go!
