Best Overall: Dove Deep Moisture Body Wash
Board-certified dermatologists Dhaval G. Bhanusali, MD, and Marisa Garshick, MD, both highly recommend Dove's nourishing body wash. “It's simple and has a great ingredient profile and is tolerated by all skin types,” says Dr. Bhanusali.
Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser
A fragrance free cleanser that is available at most stores. This cleanser is great for sensitive skin and leaves a soft clean feeling after use.
The Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Body Wash is our top choice when it comes to drugstore body washes. The soothing blend of prebiotic oats and glycerin envelops skin in a lightweight veil of hydration, never leaving a sticky or heavy feeling behind. It's hypoallergenic and free from harsh sulfates and parabens.
For body wash, Kardashian keeps it tried-and-true with Dr. Bronner's Pure Castille Liquid Soap ($17) in a relaxing lavender scent. The natural soap is known for being so multi-purpose, you can use it “18 different ways,” according to the brand. We love that you can find it on Amazon, Whole Foods, Target and more.
Best body wash overall
Dove's bodywashes are beloved by dermatologists and Strategist staffers alike, so I had high expectations when I started testing this Instant Foaming wash — and it truly did not disappoint.
Families –Families rely on Hibiclens, the antiseptic skin cleanser used in hospitals for over 40 years, to help protect their families from everyday germs.
While there is no ideal frequency, experts suggest that showering several times per week is plenty for most people (unless you are grimy, sweaty, or have other reasons to shower more often). Short showers (lasting three or four minutes) with a focus on the armpits and groin may suffice.
In fact, LovelySkin CEO and board-certified dermatologist Dr. Joel Schlessinger recommends cleansing skin with your hands over a shower loofah or washcloth.
Amazing. I have VERY sensitive skin, and this is the first body wash I've used that doesn't make me itch or get a reaction. A huge win for me! I love Cetaphil brand and was so excited when they started making a body wash.
Luxurious body washes are not just a product for grooming; they are experiences. From premium ingredients to intoxicating fragrances, these body washes change an ordinary shower into an indulgent ritual. The price is high, but the benefits your skin and body enjoy will make it well worth it.
Dove Care & Protect Body Wash
Made to protect sensitive skin from dryness and flakes, Dove's Care & Protect Antibacterial Body Wash is our favorite pick that kills bacteria while it moisturizes. We like the price—at around $0.35 per ounce, it's one of the more budget-friendly options on our list.
Showering the right way
Avoid taking excessively long showers or baths that can strip away oils from your skin's outer layer. Keep showers at about 10 minutes and be sure to apply a skin moisturizer afterward. Do not shower or bathe in extremely hot water.
Don't use Hibiclens (chlorhexidine) in the genital area or in your eyes, ears, or mouth. Otherwise, the medication can injure or damage those areas of the body.
To choose the right body wash for you, consider your skin type and any specific skin concerns you may have. If you have dry or sensitive skin, look for a moisturising body wash that is free of harsh chemicals. If you have oily or acne-prone skin, an exfoliating or antibacterial body wash may be beneficial.
