Although extremely rare, dermal fillers are able to migrate within the skin if consistent and adequate pressure is applied to them. For this reason, we advise patients not to get a facial, massage (on the treated skin), or dermaplaning for the first two weeks following their filler injections.
Keep yourself upright for at least 4 hours after your Botox or filler treatment. The upright rule also applies to napping. Not only does lying down encourage bruising or the spread of neurotoxin, but falling asleep with pressure on your face can cause Botox or filler to move to unwanted areas of the face.
This is specially important if you have had a cannula used for the filler injection. After 24 hours the skin is sealed again naturally at the puncture sites and you can go back to washing your face normally. We are all aware that fillers are hyaluronic acid gels.
Activity Restrictions Following Facial Fillers

For the first 24 hours, Dr. Ayoub suggests that his Omaha patients who have received injectable fillers gently apply cold compresses to their treatment area in order to help reduce next-day swelling.
Sleep with your head elevated the night following your treatment to help avoid and reduce swelling. Surround yourself with pillows when sleeping on your back to avoid rolling onto your side or your stomach. You must stand upright for 40-50 minutes following the treatment to allow the dermal fillers to remain in place.
DON'T: Drink alcohol as it may result in additional bruising. DON'T: Partake in strenuous exercise in the first 24 hours and avoid excessive sweating. DON'T: Use makeup for 24 hours after treatment. DON'T: Use a sauna or have excessive heat exposure for 3 days after treatment.
Apply ice. Apply ice to your lips during the first 48 hours following your procedure.
