Lip blushing is a semi-permanent tattoo that can enhance the color and shape of your lips and give the impression of more fullness. This is done by depositing color ink into your lips and along your lip line to improve the overall look. The color is subtle to give natural-looking results.
Typically, lip blushing lasts between two to three years and will gradually lighten and fade over time, until your lips slowly return to their natural hue.
Lip blushing cost
Lip blushing is a cosmetic procedure, so it's not covered by medical insurance. On average, permanent makeup procedures cost a minimum of $400 to $800 per session.
Lip blushing is a great way to maintain an all-natural look, and you can always put a layer of your favorite bright lipstick on for special occasions. If you're tired of slathering makeup on your lips day after day, lip blushing is worth considering.
AS: Lip blushing is a procedure that can give clients a natural tint of color to enhance their natural lip shape. This procedure does not plump the lips long term, but gives the illusion of a fuller, more youthful appearance.
“Lip blushing is a form of semi-permanent makeup. Essentially, it is a cosmetic tattoo of the lips that enhances the beauty of the natural lip color, improving the shape of the lips, giving definition and the illusion of fullness,” said Christina Son, owner of Sugarin Studio in Los Angeles.
Immediately following the procedure, lips will feel dry, chapped, tight and tender to the touch. They may appear swollen and bright in color. Apply ointment on lips several times a day. Keep lips moist at all times.
The pain is surprisingly minimal.
Because the skin on your lips is extra porous, the anesthesia is much more effective than it would be on, say, your brows during a microblading session.
In general, the cost of permanent makeup ink ranges between $400 and $800, which covers the entire outside of your lips. Small tattoos inside and outside of your lips may cost as little as $50. Keep in mind that lip tattoos require frequent touch-ups, which may ultimately mean more money in the long term.
Lip tattoos are meant to enhance lips, not create actual fullness. This procedure is designed to define lips, not to create volume or puffiness, says Kernahan. "It will just give you the appearance of a full lip," she says.
Because the tattoo will not lighten anyone's natural lip color, this technique does not work well on very darker skin tones. Dark skin is also at a higher risk of hyper/hypo pigmentation, so lip blush is not recommended.
Like with permanent tattoos, your lip blushing colour will be most vibrant immediately following your session. The colour will start to fade to the hue you initially selected during your consultation as these micro-wounds start to repair themselves.
Depending on the treatment and lifestyle factors, lip tattooing can last anywhere from 1-3 years. "The pigment will fade naturally and lighten over this time", says Sian, who recommends a colour boost procedure every 6-12 months.
What to Avoid. Do NOT drink alcohol the night before or drink caffeine the day you are to have your procedure. Do NOT take any blood thinning medications at least one week before your appointment, these include but not limited to: Aspirin, Niacin, Vitamin E, Fish Oil, Ibuprofen, etc.
You won't be able to heavily exercise (cause the face to sweat), use a sauna, swim or tan for ONE week. Moderate exercise is fine. Facials & skin peels should be avoided for one week pre & post tattooing. Lip filler should be done 1 month before or 2 months after your lip blush appointment.
Do not use petroleum jelly (like Vaseline). After initial healing (7-10 days) use lip gloss with sun block over the tattooed area to preserve color. The continued use of at least SPF 30 sunblock with UVA and UVB protection will help to prevent fading. Sleep slightly elevated for the first few nights to reduce swelling.
If it is your first time getting a lip blush tattoo, you may need two sessions to achieve the look you want. Kondratyev recommends that all new lip blush clients come in for two sessions.
The lip's skin tends to be quite thin, and there are many nerve endings on the lip, so it's important to consider the tattoo's pain before booking your appointment. Lip tattoos are considered one of the most painful areas to ink, plus you have to keep the lip out-turned and perfectly still during the entire process.
No kissing, rubbing or friction on your newly tattooed lips until after 10 days or you may lose pigment. Lips may be dry for 3 to 6 months depending on the body reaction.
Inner lip tattoos are most likely to fade away because of the way the inner lip area heals. For many people, an inner lip tattoo will only last for a few years. In some cases, the tattoo might fade away entirely after just a few months.
Avoid facials, swimming and or hot tubs for at least five days. Before brushing your teeth, seal lips with ointment first. Put cotton balls in gum areas so toothbrush will not rub against the lips.
After 24 hours, clean the treated area daily with mild warm water and non-alcohol soap. Apply soapy solution on a sterile gauze and blot 4 to 5 times to clean. Then blot completely dry. Use patting motions only.
Avoid hot, spicy, and salty foods as it may cause added irritation. Avoid large bodies of water, direct sun exposure, teeth whitening, rubbing and smoking. Do not pick or scratch the lips as it may lead to a loss of pigment and/or scarring.
On the first day, your eyebrows will look very bold and full. The color may look extremely dark, but keep in mind that it'll eventually fade. You'll likely experience: redness.
Pre-Care Instructions are designed and MUST BE STRICTLY FOLLOWED to limit bleeding and skin sensitivities during the service. Excessing bleeding and sensitivity during the procedure will dilute and expel the pigment color and lead to poor results.
