Brow lamination is almost like a perm for your eyebrows; similar to the well-known lash lift treatment. They're both ways of enhancing what you already have by manipulating the hairs with chemicals. The treatment is often paired with a brow tint for a bolder enhanced look.
Brow lamination is basically a perm for your brows, as it gives them a set, uniform shape for an extended period of time. Instead of curls, a setting lotion helps brow hair stay brushed up and lifted upward for about six weeks.
Just as perming the hair on your head can lead to dryness and damage, brow lamination could potentially damage your eyebrows in the same way. Your chances are greater if you repeat the process too often, or sooner than 6 weeks. Another more serious risk is eye damage.
What is brow lamination? 'Brow lamination involves straightening and lifting the hairs using a chemical solution, which allows the hairs to have more flexibility to move them into your desired shape, therefore covering any gaps or stray areas,' my therapist Thea explains.
Eyebrow lamination is best suited for those who want to make their existing thin eyebrows appear more full within a short time period. It's also best for those who might not want to fully commit to their new brow look, as the treatment only lasts for about six weeks (vs microblading which lasts about 18 months).
Similar to microblading and tinting, brow lamination was designed to give the illusion of fuller, more defined eyebrows. Where it differs from these two treatments, though, is that no pigment is added to your brows (though you can opt for an additional tint).
Can I wear makeup after brow lamination? Your stylist will apply some make up to complete your BrowSculpt treatment. After that, we recommend that you avoid applying any heavy make up around the brow (such as foundation or concealer) for 24 hours after.
Benefits of Brow Lamination
"This procedure is best for anyone who wants to make a thin brow appear full within 30 minutes as-well-as a more full brow to appear fuller and more fluffy," says Melanie Marris, eyebrow stylist and founder of Brow Code, a brand of brow products for professionals.
First thing's first, de la Garza warns there are risks to doing brow lamination at home. “Just like you could probably perm or dye your hair at home—but shouldn't—it's the same thing with brows,” he says, since you can easily ruin the integrity of your eyebrows.
Does brow lamination work on thin brows? "Yes!," says a spokesperson for beauty service Blow Ltd, "eyebrow Lamination can work well on sparse brows as the hair can be directed to cover gaps in brows and make existing hairs appear fuller.
Is there anyone who shouldn't get their brows laminated? Marris says lamination is “open to anyone and everyone” as long as your skin doesn't react negatively to the formula (that's why you should always ask your technician to start off with a patch test).
WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU WET YOUR EYEBROWS AFTER LAMINATION? If you get your brows wet following the treatment, they won't set in place, losing their shape a little. Take your time when you use any products in the facial area, including water-based makeups, avoiding the brows for a minimum of 24 hours.
Safety. Brow lamination is considered quite safe, but to ensure the safety of the process, it's crucial to have the procedure done by an experienced professional. Doing so reduces the risk of damaging your skin, eyebrows, or eyes.
Ideally leave a week before or after lamination for tinting brows. If you must tint on the same day then just ask for the tint to be put on and taken of immediately. Don't lighten your brows if you have lamination the bleach and perming will increase risk of breakage. Avoid glue during the process.
Can I brush my brows after brow lamination? You should avoid brushing or touching your brows for the first 24 hours, but after you can absolutely brush them. In fact, it's encouraged.
A brow lamination should last a good 4 weeks. It depends on the maintenance care your client is taking, but ideally they should come back every 4 to 6 weeks.
You simply wet your brush, put some brow soap on it and then use it set your brows up. I would gently back brush my brows to get them to have that “laminated” eyebrow look. Then you let the eyebrow soap dry, which only takes about a minute.
The hair of the eyebrows are made up of keratin protein, and egg is a great source of protein. Keratin is a major ingredient in most hair growth supplements. Egg yolks are also a rich source of biotin, which helps your brows grow. You will get a faster growth rate if you use this treatment twice a week.
The beautiful results should last 6 to 8 weeks. The first 24 hours after Lash and Brow Lamination are crucial. In addition to not wearing mascara, you should not wet them and should avoid steam and all forms of moisture and humidity.
Thioglycolic Acid happened. Or to put it another way - your brows were over processed. Over-processing is when hairs become damaged due to chemical agents being too strong or being left on for too long. Thioglycolic acid is the chemical agent used in a brow lamination to straighten and 'lift' your brows.
A cotton round to clean brows, mine are reusable ones. Some cream/Vaseline, as a barrier to apply on the skin around the brows. I used my fave lip balm, Lucas' Papaw. Spoolie to brush brows up.
For brow lamination pre-care, you definitely don't want to use any exfoliants, retinoids, AHAs or anything like that before your brow lamination appointment. You also don't want to wax, thread or tweeze at least a week before your appointment.
If properly maintained, brow lamination can last anywhere from four to six weeks. The great thing about brow lamination is that there is no downtime or side effects to the procedure.
Both having a similar effect to a hair perm - a lash lift is meant to lengthen, curl, and thicken your lashes while a lamination is meant to enhance your brows and give them a thicker appearance.
Eyebrow restoration
You can talk with a dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon about hair grafts that target your eyebrows. These types of grafts use your existing hair follicles to fill in thin spots and encourage regrowth.
