Wear dark loose clothing; tight clothing or underwear may cause marks. Wear loose fitting shoes. Shower lightly in cold – lukewarm water for 45 seconds ONLY after your desired development time. Use plain water, don't use shower gels, scrubs, shampoos or loofah during the first 24 hours after your treatment.
Keep It Loose Wearing loose clothing is probably the biggest tip in what to wear after a spray tan. After the spray tan session, it is best to wear a flowy dress or baggy shirt and pants that don't rub against your skin or constrict it. Tight clothes will rub the tan off. It's not good for your tan or your clothes.
Dark colors I highly recommend purchasing dark clothing to wear to bed after self tanning. A dark color like black, navy, or chocolate brown won't show tan stains, making them smart choices.
Wear Loose Clothing
It's just had a dose of UV rays and needs some care. Tight clothing can cause unnecessary friction and potentially irritate your freshly tanned skin. Loose clothing, on the other hand, allows your skin to breathe and recover without any added stress.
WEAR LOOSE-FITTING CLOTHING
After your tan, you should wear loose-fitting clothing so your tan doesn't rub off or look uneven. The perfect outfit is a long, black t-shirt dress and sandals. You'll want to avoid wearing anything tight, like jeans, leggings, yoga pants, socks, or sneakers.
Your tan takes a full 24 hours to see the final result. Wait about 24 hours to shower with soap or body wash after your appointment. Your tan needs moisture to last! Moisturize every morning and night to prolong the life of your tan.
After your spray tan, you should wear dark, loose cotton clothes that will cover your fresh tan to protect it. Outfits such as a dark cotton maxi dress, loose yoga pants, a t-shirt or jammie pants, and a soft long-sleeved t-shirt.
It is important not to wear tight clothing after applying fake tan as this can cause your tan to rub off or cause marks. This can make self-tanning in the morning more difficult as you must wear dark, loose clothing to avoid any transfer and you can't use deodorant or perfume.
Wear dark-colored, loose-fitting clothing with long sleeves to protect your fresh tan. Choose clothes made from breathable materials like cotton. Try garments like flowy skirts or maxi dresses, long-sleeve tees with loose or open necklines, and soft pants with elastic or drawstring waistbands.
TIP #1: POWDER PROBLEM AREAS
Our top tip for keeping your tan intact during your workout is to apply talcum or baby powder to areas that are typically exposed to friction and sweat during your time at the gym. Good spots to hit with powder include the crevices of your elbows and knees, your underarms, and your chest.
Apply Moisturizer Before Tanner
After exfoliating your body, continue the prepping process by applying a moisturizer. You shouldn't apply self-tanner without moisturizing first, because skipping out on this prep step could potentially leave you with patchy color — this goes for your face and the rest of your body.
Avoid using harsh or fragranced products immediately after tanning, as they may further irritate the skin.
Wearing tight clothing, including bras with straps that can rub against your skin, can cause the tan to wear off unevenly or even come off in patches. To ensure that your spray tan looks its best and lasts as long as possible, it's generally recommended to wait at least 8-12 hours before wearing a bra.
Depending on how long your tan takes to develop, it can be best to sleep in it overnight and wash it off in the morning — just be sure to use dark coloured sheets or a tan sheet protector. Use cooler water to wash off the residue of your fake tan.
Throw on a pair of loose pajama bottoms and a t-shirt. Set a towel over your pillow. Hop in to bed. Our formula needs to develop over 8 hours, just enough time for the perfect beauty sleep.

UPF: What it is and why it matters
For example, a UPF 50 fabric blocks 98 percent of the sun's rays and allows two percent (1/50th) to penetrate, thus reducing your exposure risk significantly. What you need to know: A fabric must have a UPF of 50 to qualify for The Skin Cancer Foundation's Seal of Recommendation.
Moisturize
Apply moisturizer as soon as you can, immediately after sun exposure. Then apply it again after a cool shower. A heavier moisturizer or specialty cream for sun-damaged skin will help rehydrate and rejuvenate your skin.
After applying your self-tanner, you'll need to give the product time to dry and settle on your skin. Do not get dressed right away, wrap yourself in a towel, or lie down. Wait about 10 to 15 minutes before putting clothes on—and even then, wear loose-fitting attire.
Dhesthetics has 2 recommended body washes to use in the shower to help preserve your tan. Aveevo Daily Moisturizing body wash or Cetaphil Daily Nourishing body wash. All of these body washes have great ingredients in them that will help to preserve not only your tan, but keep your skin healthy.
Tight, close-toed shoes are a no-no when it comes to spray tans. The pressure and rubbing on your feet can cause streaks and remove freshly applied solution. To avoid the smudge, choose loose, open-toed sandals like flip flops or slip-ons without a heel.
Post-tan, skip bar soaps, exfoliating scrubs, and alcohol-based lotions as they can strip your colour and leave it patchy. Limit long, hot showers or excessive washing, which can speed up fading. Instead, stick to quick, lukewarm showers and use gentle, sulfate-free body washes.
Shower. If you notice a stink and want your tan to last, you may have to stick out the smell for a few hours. But, rest assured that once the tan has developed, you can wash away the smell in the shower with a pleasantly-scented body wash.
